We'd intended to go to the other La Barraca, but it was closed for the holidays. This one isn't geared up for passing trade it's a fairly plain doorway on a street opposite the railway lines into the station. Not particularly glamorous. Inside isn't flashy either, and nor is the food, but it tastes superb. We loved it, and would recommend you go, but you might need to be hungry... The tomato salad was amazing. And huge. I'm glad my wife didn't order a starter, because we ended up sharing it. The Blind Paella (no shells to peel off) was delicious, and we almost managed to finish it. Foolishly, I ordered grilled pineapple for dessert, thinking it would be a light way to round off the meal. It turned out to be a quarter of a pineapple with candied walnuts and cream. I struggled through. Yum.

I really wanted to eat some paella when in spain so i googled places with vegan paellas and this is the first one that came up. The reviews were really good so I was exvited and hoped the paella was vegan and not vegetarian. We drove there and asked and it was vegan! We booked a table for the evening. The staff were very friendly and it was a good atmosphere. the paellas were a little expensive, 16 euro per person, but it was worth every penny! And the portions were big! Never in my life have I experienced what I felt when I put the first bite in my mouth. The biggest and greatest explosion or flavour. It was so good! I haven’t had many paellas before, so I don’t have much to compare with, but this is absolutetly the best paella I’ve ever had and might even be one of the best dishes I’ve ever had. I still think about this paella everyday and wish I could eat it everyday. I would 100% go back to Bilbao just to eat this again. My parents had one with seafood and they loved it too. They said that the vegan one and that one tasted different, but both were extraordinary. If anything could be improved i would say, maybe add some protein, like a vegan meat substitute, maybe tofu to the vegan paella. It wouldn’t be necessary though because the portions were huge and I left with a huge food baby! It felt good to find a place with traditional spanish food that also served vegan options. This did not disappoint and this is a MUST if you’re going to bilbao!
