The Gulch Fish & Chips - Bicheno
The Gulch Fish & Chips
Description
A recent review for a local fish and chip shop offers a mixed bag of opinions. One customer expressed disappointment in the greasy and small portioned fish, feeling the $50 price tag was not justified. Another mentioned a mix-up with their order but still found the overall experience lacking. However, there were positive reviews as well, with customers praising the freshness and generous portions of the fish and chips. Despite some mixed feedback, the majority of reviewers seemed to enjoy the experience, particularly the fresh seafood and crispy chips.

Interesting set-up, it looks like it’s just takeaway but there is indoor and outdoor seating around the back. Had to wait quite a bit longer than the 10 minutes we were told our order would take. Average fish and chips that didn’t live up to the standard indicated by the reviews and the number of people lining up.
I really wanted to like this place and when I first came in it was a fun quirky little place, we ordered the fish and chip special but our order wasn't taken down properly so we just ended up with two lonely servings of fish, no problems, mistakes happen, wasn't able to pay the difference to get some chips however which was also a little disappointing, the extra wait didn't really help the place as the longer we had to look around the more it went from quirky to depressing with spark damaged electrical outlets and dusty surfaces, when the chips did arrive they were dense and greasy, the sat heavily in the stomach and the oily flavour just lingered, all in all wouldn't recommend, go two minutes up the road for significantly better food.
Such a great lunch of battered gummy shark, grilled salmon, battered prawns and lovely crispy chips, eaten over looking the small wharf and jetty. Food arrived promptly and was very fresh. Would definitely recommend you look for this place on the same road as the blowholes just up the other end.
Really good fish and chips. The fish was fresh, they only offer what has been caught. The calamari was a definite win. The abalone was not so great but I think that may just be abalone. They are cash only. We ordered $7 of chips for 5 people and it was the right amount.
So a great lunch of broken gummy hai, grilled salmon, scattered garnel and beautiful crispy chips, eaten over the search for the little wharf and jetty. Eat immediately arrived and was very fresh. they would definitely recommend to look for this place on the same road as the blas holes exactly the other end.
