I had an amazing evening at Yazawa! The different cuts of meat were fantastic, and the flavors were incredible. I also tried a few salads and the garlic rice, which were both excellent. The service was outstanding as well. I will definitely be returning! View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Yazawa Japanese Bbq:
This was not what I expected, and I usually enjoy Japanese BBQ. The salad was overly salty, the appetizer was just mediocre, and while the beef was good, it wasn't great. The waiter took a long time between courses and confused our orders a few times. Given the price we paid, I expected a much better experience. I've had meals that were ten times better at other Japanese restaurants with similar price points. The qua... View all feedback.
I had one of the best Japanese BBQ experiences in Los Angeles. Everything I tasted was exceptional and unforgettable. The highlights were the wagyu cuts, all featuring perfect marbling, thin slices, and just the right seasoning. We opted for double portions of zabuton, rib-shin, and ichibo. Honestly, it’s tough to pick a favorite, but I’m leaning towards the zabuton. We also tried beef tongue, oxtail soup, jidori chicken, and kalbi short rib, all of which were outstanding. The Wagyu Toro sashimi was a revelation, as it tasted remarkably similar to actual tuna toro, making it a unique experience since it was my first time trying raw meat that wasn't carpaccio. We wrapped up our meal with a complimentary hot tea lychee ice cream, which was delightful, especially with the little bits of fruit that refreshed my palate with something light and fresh. The service was excellent overall; our waiter was very knowledgeable and answered all my questions. While the restaurant is small, its beautifully styled decor creates a cozy, intimate atmosphere without loud music or crowds. This is a fantastic spot for a date or a birthday celebration.
I docked one point because I felt the garlic rice lacked a bit of flavor, even though it's meant to complement the meat. Everything else was really good! The three types of Wagyu as an appetizer were a fantastic start, with a good portion size, and the tongue harami was a favorite of mine. If you're curious, you can ask whether it pairs better with the sukiyaki or clear ponzu sauce. A lot of people prefer this dish! I found the Yazawa Yaki a tad bitter when dipped in the sauce, but it was still very enjoyable. As for the garlic rice, I don't quite understand the mixed reviews—it could use a splash of soy sauce, but it's good when eaten together with the meat, I suppose. There were four types of Yazawa Wagyu from different cuts, with shoulder being my favorite of the night. Overall, it was really good! The filet was also excellent, but I'm not sure if it's worth the additional $40. It’s definitely worth a try though! At the end, they serve tea to cleanse the palate. I couldn't help but laugh when they served only half a cup, but it was quite nice!
The restaurant's hours are inaccurate, and contrary to what was advertised, they do not offer takeout. When I called, the person who answered said his name was Dick, and he certainly lived up to that impression.
Omakase menu with the meat is great The wagyu was so buttery and as the course went on just got more and more buttery. The sole focus is meat so great for meat lovers.
