What Charlotte Edwards doesn't like about Cafe & Restaurant Rathaus:
Today I was with my family in town. We had a buggy with a sleeping baby with us. That's why we take seat in the almost empty room which is for dinner. The Cafe was crowded with people. The waiter told us very unfriendly, we can't have a drink there - it's only for eating. WHAT!? We left under protest! Never again Rathaus - so impolite! View all feedback.
Eat sausages, escalope and 0.5 wine. It's good, but it's expensive, like everyone in Switzerland. There's nothing to complain about going there for a millionaire. Sticks under umbrella right in the bottom square. You can smoke. Two steps, an underground pay parking lot, too, dear. Actually, Bern is the most beautiful... of the three cities visited, Lucerne and Zurich are still.
The service staff was really rude. She expressed annoyance and anger at us when we could not catch her question and she had to repeat it to us. The food was just passable. Could probably get better service and food elsewhere. Highly not recommended.
My husband and I chose this restaurant based on its location and cosy appearance. But looks can be deceiving! Unfortunately we don't speak German, but we do speak English and French; however our waitress made no attempt to explain the night's specials to us. Instead we ordered off of the standard menu and were served fried pork cutlets with what appeared to be frozen french fries. No bread, no water, no follow-up to find out how our meals were. A man at a nearby table tried three times to get a second beer and was studiously ignored. I've waited tables and so I always try to give my servers the benefit of the doubt, particularly if the place is too crowded and they have their hands full. But that was not the case here. Our server never asked if we wanted dessert or coffee; instead, she just plopped the bill down on our table without a word. My advice is to avoid this restaurant at all costs.
Visited 4th Jun 2016 first for a drink and then in the evening for a meal. OK service a little slow, but waitress friendly. Meal of large prawns and pasta absolutely delicious. Rose wine also very good, though quantity small! Disappointed as no apple strudel left so had an ice cream dessert instead. We loved the surroundings, very much like a French restaurant.
This place looked cute and had fondue on the menu (which I'd been wanting to try here,) so we decided to pop in for lunch. When I tried to order the fondue, however, the waitress told me there had to be 2 people to order it, even though that wasn't stated anywhere on the menu. So, my mother kindly decided to forgo her schnitzel in order to order the fondue with me. Though the fondue itself was good, it was served with stale bread (I tipped the bread basket over two times trying to stab a piece with my fork, it was so hard and stale) and some little boiled potatoes, which tasted bland and odd with the fondue. For 25 franc each (!!), you would think they'd serve the fondue with either better quality ingredients or a larger variety of food! I had also ordered a side salad, but the waitress never brought it out and it was impossible to get her attention to ask about it, even though the place wasn't busy at all. Given the mediocre, overpriced food and poor service, I would NOT recommend this place to anybody!
