Less impressive was... read more We went to the 7 Stube because it was in the Michelin Guide. The restaurant is well located in the center of town and has a lovely setting. Less impressive was the distracted reception. The person greeting us made a big deal of how hard it was to seat a group of five (I guess because most tables were set for four persons, or six) and there seemed to be no communication between the service staff. As for the food, while 7 Stube has fairly prized and interesting looking menus, most plates don’t rise above a mediocre standard. There was a fine appetizer plate of fish terrine with superbly cooked prawn, but other plates were heavy and uninspired. The huge signs on the bathroom doors announcing “for customers only” gave the place a rather “unclassy” air, to put it mildly. The place was full of Bernese dowagers and other seemingly rather well to do customers, so it does not seem that important to the restaurant how a one-time visitor is greeted or how mediocre the food is.

I had the fish and chips and do not recommend this meal, it kept me up part of the night. I am sure there are better menu selections. I believe my dinner would have been much better with a different selection.
