Front of house waitresses were very friendly, but it is very clear that this place is a big fish in a small pond. With very limited choice, we stumbled upon this place, and, with it being a fishing town, we chose to indulge in the seafood. To cut a long story short, we ordered a starter 2 mains from the seafood menu, were served 3 starters. The wine was the best value part of the meal. If you are on a diet or watching your carb intake, and like overspending on very simple meals, then this is the place for you. The owner is nice, but will try 'woo ' you into spending more money on the more expensive items on the menu. Considering what you can get for your money in Bilbao San Sebastián, the bill that you get for the food here is a bitter pill to swallow. I 'd advise to try the other cafe/restaurants in the area before sitting down for a very disappointing meal in this restaurant.

We ate here on the recommendation of our guide. We were all set to order off the menu, but the owner recommended some other dishes, so we agreed. 250€ later we found out those recommendations were way out of line with prices on the menu. Don't waste your money.

Last day in Spain, on a lazy drive to Bilbao airport, we stumbled across the town of Mundaka. Pretty place, small town, relaxed pace of life this time of year. We chose to eat here as it looked like a proper restaurant, we'd had an awful lot of Pintxo's by then! Pleasant greeting from an enthusiastic and charming waitress, poked at the menu, a plate of Jamon Iberico and simple Salad to start. The Jamon was really good as was the salad, very fresh, tuna, tomatoes, egg, asparagus. Not too much dressing. We then moved on to the Hake for two, grilled in the open kitchen, served simply with some Mediterranean style veg and a slice of lemon. Lovely fish, beautifully cooked, the cheeks were particularly splendid, all washed down with some of the local white wine. Nice way to end our holiday, would definitely return to try some of their awesome looking meat! Matt

The Basque Country appears to have restaurants which cook meat or fish on wood fires either inside or outside and not much else. How much skill is required to cook like this, most of us have a BBQ in our garden and manage quite easily to produce good food. We went to this restaurant as there was not much else on offer in Mundaka. There is no atmosphere, it is brightly lit and probably has not changed decor or the rather tired menu in years.TV blaring in the background. It is run by the patron and his family plus there is someone presiding over the indoor wood fire. We ordered steak and chips (lamb chops had run out apparently which I would have preferred). We had a mixed salad to start with, the steaks arrive with chips and some grilled peppers. Having asked for them to be cooked 'medium ', the steaks were almost rare on one side. I asked for mine to bee cooked some more, my husband struggled on with his, it was rather tough anyway. We decided not to risk anything else from the menu.60 euros was not good value!

A fabulous experience! We had beautifully cooked monk fish with excellent service. So far the best we have had in Mundaka. Staff speak English and very friendly. We will go back tomorrow.
