Fantastic regional (but NOT the local region) German food, kitsch objects, and service. What I particularly appreciate is — ok well the food (especially during seasons where it’s more plant-based) but I was going to say — the great combination of authenticity and diversity. Sometimes you’re here and it could be the 19C deep in the woods in the German/Czech border regions, other times the place is full of people with diverse backgrounds. and orientations, but the food and service are always to the same exceptional quality. I also appreciate the drinks.
At first glance, the restaurant does everything right: quaint, cozy, exactly the kind of place that makes you think, Yes, this is the place for me – a lovely German restaurant! Unfortunately, the enthusiasm ends precisely where the food begins. We ate there today with a group. Since I 'm from Thuringia myself, I specifically chose a Thuringian roulade made according to the original Thuringian recipe. What arrived, however, had little to do with what one understands as a roulade in Thuringia. The roulade contained whole quarters of onions (hard, not braised) and what felt like at least half a kilo of mustard. I 've never experienced anything like that in Thuringia. If the meat had at least been nice and tender, I might have eaten it – but as it was, it was a real disappointment. The goulash soup served beforehand somewhat saved me. It was okay – not a culinary dream from Thuringia, but certainly edible. What I really can 't recommend to anyone, however, is the tomato juice: a very peculiar taste; perhaps they should reconsider the brand. It 's especially disappointing because, while studying the menu, I really thought, Cool, finally a place with Thuringian food like home—maybe even a new favorite. Unfortunately, this hope was completely dashed. In retrospect, choosing this restaurant for tonight was a complete flop. My wife and I were here for the first time today—and sadly, also the last. While the restaurant was busy, perhaps we were just unlucky. But the disappointment was so great that we don 't want to give it a second chance. It 's a real shame, because the ambiance promises far more than the food ultimately delivers.
