Thal, or "valley", is named after the Valdagno, a historic valley in Northern Italy sheltered by the Dolomites. The real valley has got to be larger than this wine bar, one small room where you may be lucky enough to find a bar stool. But no matter, you're in the right place to taste some incredible wines and nibble delicious finger food. On two separate occassions we have enjoyed the 4 Elementi Rosso from Masari (5.50 Euros for 0.1 liter), the Bolgheri Rosso (7.00 Euros), the Aglianico Core (6.50 Euros), a red wine made from black grapes in Campania, a Chianti AMA (7.50 Euros). We have had the pickled mackerel filet (9 Euros), the Lamb meatballs (9 Euros), the pork ragout (12 Euros) and a selection of cheese (15 Euros). The wines and snacks were delicious, yes, incredibly delicious. Service is right there, friendly, with the proper reserve. I am afraid we will have to keep going back at least until we have tried everything. Life is tough!
This is a tiny room that fills up quickly even on the weeknights. There is a good selection of Italian wines from an importer and a few others, for instance 3 different champagnes. The service staff is excellently informed and can help you make a choice, they tend to your needs but are not in your face. You can have small eats such as brucettas or salamis and olives and it is also possible to have something non-alcoholic. Kind of a neighborhood place, if your neighborhood is sophisticated, international and smart.
