Avoid.Very very expensive for what it is..no prices shown on their digital menu which should have been a warning sign. This is an average middle of the road standard Austrian fare restaurant. We had two goats chees salad starters between 4 people. 4 goulash with mashed potato whicch were tasty but each cost 32 euro. Half karafe of white wine was 32 euro. We were charged for a white wine we didnt order. We asked for 1 dessert.and were given a large dessert costing 20 euros and told it was a sharing portion. So two simple starters, four plates of goulash and one dessert and some wine and juices came to 240 euros including a tip. The service was attentive to be fair and nice enough atmosphere. But a complete rip off for average food and for what we had. Just because its in the heart of the gay district is not an excuse to rip people off. You will see from several other reviews i have posted that the majority are positive.Avoid this place.
Sissi: when good food is not enough We waited 45 minutes for our food with zero communication from staff. Not once did anyone come by to acknowledge the delay or give us a simple heads-up. The whole evening felt chaotic from the start: only two waiters seemed to be running a two-floor restaurant with multiple rooms, and both already looked overwhelmed and irritated. Drinks arrived, then silence. Eventually the food came, and while it was good, it was not nearly good enough to justify the wait or the attitude. To make matters worse, the lemons served with the schnitzel were moldy and bland. They did replace them, but that should never have happened in the first place. Service remained painfully slow throughout, but the worst part came at the end. After asking for the check, we waited another 20 minutes, only to be told that if we wanted to pay by card, we had to go out to the corridor. There, another waiter spoke to us in an extremely rude, passive-aggressive way and still had the nerve to push for a tip — which, unbelievably, some of us still gave. On my way out, I told the manager the service had been bad. Instead of apologizing, he called the waiter over to speak to me. Not once did this waiter show any empathy or take responsibility. He just defended himself, blamed the kitchen, said they were doing their best, and used the fact that the food was “homemade” as some kind of excuse. I’m sorry, but I’m a chef: you do not need 45 minutes for six schnitzels with cold potato salad. And front of house should never throw the kitchen under the bus or let internal chaos spill so visibly into the guest experience. That is literally part of the job. The restaurant wasn’t even full. To make it worse, the prices are simply ridiculous for the level of service and overall quality. What you pay does not match what you get — not even close. Sissy could have been warm and cozy, but the atmosphere was ruined by the tension, the lack of communication, and the entitled attitude. A simple warning about a kitchen delay would have gone a long way. Instead, we got silence, excuses, and hostility. Also: the second floor needs ventilation ASAP
Another amazing visit to this wonderful restaurant. Fantastic food matched by excellent service. Highly recommended!
We found Sissi Restaurant online and, given its excellent ratings, my partner and I decided to give it a try as it was close to the hotel where we were staying. We reserved a table via OpenTable as it allows same-day bookings, whereas their own website does not accept reservations for the same day. The service was excellent – attentive, warm and friendly – and I must say it served the best schnitzel we had during our trip to Berlin. We enjoyed it so much that we decided to return on our last evening before leaving Berlin. We tried the veal, pork and chicken schnitzel, and the chicken was our favourite, especially with the warm potato and cucumber salad. This place is a must-try!
