Two friends and I enjoyed a delicious lunch today, taking advantage of the asparagus specials. Our waiter was kind and patient with us, easily switching to English, and the food was superb. I highly recommend taking a stroll through the park and dining at Schoenbrunn. A perfect summer afternoon!

The sign over the building looks like authentic, classic Soviet-style architectural lettering. But the mood is very elegant for a park restaurant. On a nice day, many customers sit outside. We enjoyed coffee, hot tea and two small Ritter Sport chocolate bars (bought earlier at the downtown Ritter store). If you don't want table service, grab a snack from the attached self-serve Imbiss. The Friedrichshain park is enormous; go explore.

Got a glass of wonderful Riesling and chilled

I don 't want to diss the more upper scale restaurant because I 've never actually been there, and maybe it 's great. But the whole setup at the Volkspark is a bit of a disaster because it 's hard to tell which tables belong to which establishments, whether...it 's self service or table service, etc. and what they do or don 't offer. It is also very hard to flag a waiter we sat there in the scorching heat for over 15 minutes unnoticed while the place was at 40% capacity and eventually moved to a different section to get the attention of a different waiter as ours was too busy chatting to his colleague notice us. Still no service after that. At this point we were ravenous so I decided to go up to the sausage hut to get a Bratwurst and an ice cream for the child. When I got to the hut, I saw an ice cream fridge. So I asked for an ice cream. Look down there was the response. I looked down at my feet and saw only my child. Look down there at the sign he insisted. I still didn 't see any sign. What does the sign say? he barked. It says NO ICE CREAM, NO CHIPS. I asked him if he was scolding me, to which he replied no, but we have a problem!! Not my problem, mate. So do you still want the Bratwurst? was the irritated reply I got. Hey, it was hot it can 't be easy to be locked in a hut cooking sausages in that kind of heat. But you can 't be treating your customers like that, even if you are a Berliner.
