The marzipan is chocolate, I tried ones flavored with orange, pistachio and cherry. Priced at 1 euro per truffle, and so quite fancy.
Expensive chocolates, and I think the overall quality is not worth the price. The truffles were better, but the packaged star-shaped ones were very mediocre. I don’t think I will buy again.
Sawade Berlin is a charming chocolate shop with a classic, old-school Berlin feel. The selection is broad enough to please most chocolate fans—beautiful pralines, marzipan treats, and some creative flavors—all attractively displayed and packaged. The marzipan and dark chocolates stood out most, with the pistachio being a personal favorite. Service was polite but not especially memorable, and the space itself is elegant, although not as glamorous as Berlin’s famous chocolatiers. While Sawade is certainly good, it can’t compete with the wow-factor of Rausch or Läderach. The overall taste is nice, just not as rich or complex as the selections at those high-end spots. Prices are fair for Berlin, and Sawade is a fine place for gifts or a special treat, but if you’re seeking the very best chocolate experience in the city, you’ll find a higher level elsewhere.Four stars: solid, reliable, and worth a visit, especially for marzipan lovers. Not life-changing, but the quality and tradition definitely come through.
