I visited this restaurant as a single woman, so I sat at the bar. When I asked the bartender where a certain rose wine came from, he said Germany and I had to ask for the region. Rude response number one. I ordered a small plate and a main course. They arrived together. When I commented about that, the bartender's answer was that I should have told him that I didn't want both courses together. Rude response number two. I did make my concerns known and the bartender did apologize, but since he didn't offer a drink or dessert on the house,I have to think that the apology wasn't sincere. I won't return or recommend this restaurant to my friends. Too bad, as the food was quite good. There are too many nice restaurants to waste my time on one with bad service.
There are many good restaurants around Bergmannstrasse, but it is absolutely worth your time to walk two blocks south to eat at Peter Schlemihl. The ambiance felt cozy and lively, without being overwhelming. Staff are excellent - helpful and very friendly, but not intrusive. They speak English if you need. Then there is the food - oh my, the food was delicious, and beautifully presented. Lots of flavors, thoughtfully created, a contemporary German menu. The cost of dining here is amazingly affordable; our three entrees were all less than 9 Euros each, and including a shared salad and three large beers our tab was barely 40 Euros (and they did accept a credit card). So glad we came to eat here, and I hope we can return before we leave.
We have been eating hier many times because we love this restaurant! Menu is delicious and prices are very fair! Warm atmosphere and friendly stuff make this place very special! Really worth to visit !
Absolutely fabulous traditional German food. Went in not knowing what to expect. Came out with a new deep appreciation for German food. Everything we are was absolutely delicious. Standouts included duck confit (potted like rillettes) with excellent bread, alpine style spaetzel, spinach knoedel, and incredibly tender Schweinbraten (special that day). If we’d had another day in Berlin we would have gone a second time.
