Despite the stuffy neighborhood, this restaurant offers its delicious food in a casual, friendly setting. The place has the feel of a neighborhood small restaurant or bar, and the food is fabulous in a traditional way and comes in generous portions, so it's also a good value for money. Don't expect fancy presentation or experimental dishes. Lusiada opens late in the afternoon and gets quite busy (including plenty of locals), so it's worth making a reservation, though chances are you can get in with a little wait. (There is a back dining room with additional tables, but I prefer 'the bar area -- this front area set around the horseshoe bar and facing the Ku'damm is much nicer.) All the seafood dishes were excellent, the spicy mussels and grilled sardines especially so. The Portuguese wine was all right, but less satisfying than the food. I will definitely return to try the fish and the ribs which also looked great on neighboring tables. Our waitress was fast, helpful and very friendly without being pushy. Overall, a great experience.
I recently had dinner at the Lusiada with a couple of work colleagues, one of whom is a regular visitor to this restaurant.Located at the western end of the Kurfurstendamm, the restaurant is in two parts, with a horseshoe shaped bar and a dining area through the back. However, most of the punters in the bar area were also eating. The dining area is simply furnished but the main attraction is the food !The menu contains a wide array of Portuguese dishes with the special of the day when we visited being Mussels, which my colleagues ordered for a starter and said it was fabulous. My cold meat and cheeses platter starter was also very good whilst the Veal Coimbra main dish was served in a delicious sauce. My colleagues were pleased with their sea food dishesThe one down side though was the service. The waitress was very friendly but seemed to working alone and so there were delays in our drinks being delivered to our table. However, overall I recommend the Lusiada.
Went there with work colleagues after a long day at an exhibition, great service, food was fantastic and the place had a really good atmosphere. Lots of locals and very busy for a Tuesday evening which says a lot. Recommend if you are in the area.
It used to be my favorite place — I visited it regularly and invited my friends. Used to, because smoking cigarettes is allowed inside. I understand that it’s a hookah place, but the smell of cigarettes is completely different from hookah. It became impossible to breathe. I tried changing seats and moved closer to the door, but because of the bad weather it was cold and uncomfortable. For me, smoking cigarettes in a hookah place is the same as eating smelly, disgusting food that you brought from home in a restaurant. I’m sorry to remove this place from my favorites.
