What Bastian Steffen dislikes about Bofrost Katlenburg:
I was looking forward to going to Lode Stijn given the good reviews but unfortunately it was nothing to rave about. The service is all over the place and we were served food by everyone including the front of house, sommelier and the chef...(and so no one really knew what was going on . The main issue however was the veryyy long wait between courses (and with a paired menu, this meant us waiting around with nothing t... View all feedback.

Location: this is a little outside the usual "tourists" meeting points, but the effort of a taxi is worth it! atmosphere: cozy and chic - matching background music - quiet modern jazz in the night we were there. service: friendly and attentive. eating: simply excellent. this is creative and unpretentious cuisine from lode, a classic-trained chef with excellent stem. photos showing the exquisite presentation speak for themselves. the tasting menu was balanced and since my scale is always pudding, the Sauerampfer ice cream was the outstanding (which I mean with kreatiw and unpretentious!) wein: let them be recommended by stijn! interesting and good weine. bill: our eating no longer cost than we would pay for an average restaurant in london. this is in my opinion an excellent value for money and I seriously consider traveling to berlin again, just so I can come back!

Holland is more known by a defensive kitchen, stomppot, and pudding in flan, flan, as well as the magnificent matjes with wobbles. the two world-renowned Dutchmen in their Spartan local near the Landwehrkanal, in the innermost scene quarter of the gentrification of kreuzberg, make this quite different. they have also taken over little by the instantly hip kitchen. There is a vegetarian-loaded forced menu with 6 courses. eiweiss only offered a really excellent hand-cut tartar and a tranche of the plaice. But here as with all other passages, the very green pestos, salsas and mirrors, which were too acid astig and overlaid the taste of the actual products. The wine-guiding was very good, suitable and also surprising. a local that attracts young people. the old ones who still live here don't have the money.

Well, the restaurant will be closing soon. The two of us wanted to get another impression and spend a pleasant evening. For a one-star restaurant, the ambience is terrible. The wooden chairs have no cushions or a simply padded bench. The wooden table is varnished to give it a relaxed look and at the same time save €1,500 a month on white laundry. The dining room is loud and too cold in winter, the heating is lukewarm on level 5. The woman sitting next to you should wear a thick, simple sweater and not designer clothing, which is not shown here. A blouse or something similar is out of the question, as the temperature would reveal too much. A record player plays black vinyl with very specific music, often so loud that you can 't understand your table neighbor. If you turn the music down, it 's promptly turned up again... The service sometimes seems haphazard or provided by temporary employment agencies. The service is often mostly in English and poor German. All in all, you celebrate yourself in the special way of the boss in the house until the bitter end of the establishment. In terms of food, there are now only 8-course menus, yes or no. Optional matching wines. The wines were more of a mediocre accompaniment, but perfectly suited to the courses. The kitchen is fundamentally capable of more than the restaurant 's style allows. When it closes in mid-December, the owner will rethink his concept. Too casual and special for a star, too expensive for anything less. It 's simply an attempt to make fine dining trendy in Kreuzberg. Unfortunately, the zeitgeist is changing ever faster. The result of the evening was €500 for two, in a special ambiance with quite competent cuisine. Others can do that better, even in Berlin...we were entertained, but unfortunately not met with enthusiasm.

Dear Lode Stijn team, as always, a lovely evening. As you're about to take your well-deserved break, thank you for many wonderful evenings, the friendly service, the culinary variety during the coronavirus pandemic, and the fantastic wine recommendations.
