You know, the bar that you say to your friends, Oh, let 's just go to ____... read more When I first moved to Berlin, I didn 't know it at the time, but I wanted my own bar. You know, the bar that you say to your friends, Oh, let 's just go to _____! and everyone agrees happily because it is reliable, cheap, and cozy. Laika, as you could guess, is this bar. It 's literally a block away from my apartment, and even before I knew what it was, the murals on the outside attracted me. Every passing glance I gave it on a run, or just walking down the street, made me long for the homey, cozy quality that everyone inside seemed to be experiencing. The decor inside is very much like my family 's living room, and there 's a separate smoking room as well, which I really appreciate it. The drink menu is not extensive, but has enough variety to give me exactly what I want. Currently, in the Christmas season, there is a fully adorned Christmas tree hanging from the ceiling in the corner. The clientele seems extremely varied. Yes, there are your typical, hip, Neukölln 20-somethings working on their freelance editing with a glass of wine and a Tasse of Kaffee, but I 've also seen older men with whitened hair, and families (albeit ohne Kinder). This lends even more to my vision of Laika as my parent 's living room. I haven 't had the coffee there yet, and I haven 't been to any events, but my guess is that, like the rest of the menu, it 's varied, reliable, and cheap.
