As I am writing travel guides for and about Berlin, I am always looking for hidden gems. And I can tell you this restaurant is one . Here you find adelicious Chinese diahes. I went for my all-time fave: Sweet chili noodles 甜辣细面 – a spicy-sweet flavor explosion with sesame-peanut paste, garlic, crunchy peanuts, sesame and egg. Long had the light chaoshou dumplings floating in a delicate white pepper soup, with spring onion, coriander and sesame – basically a warm hug in a bowl. Dessert? I got black bean coconut ice cream iced mochi – sweet, creamy... Really good. Their homemade coconut melon lemonade was also delicious. Bonus points: they're super kid-friendly! You can get everything without spice and even just plain noodles with soy sauce. More hidden gems can be found in my BertaBerlin maps Meal type: Dinner Price per person: €10–20 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
Our dinner at Kong was wonderful: When we entered the restaurant, the first thing we noticed was the beautifully designed interior and cozy ambience in the room; even the music was very tastefully chosen. We where then greated personally by the owner. He took us to our table and explained to us their philosophy: authentic Chinese kitchen with varying themes and chefs. It was a Sichuan 5 course dinner for us, the only food option on the menu – perfect. Also the list of drinks on the menu was very short and authentically Chinese: green tea, water, cocnut water, one cocktail, one kind of beer, three kinds of licquor. Great. We had the sparkling green tea (nice and refreshing) and the cocktail (very special and delicious). Then came the food and we enjoyed every course: from the starters (spicy dried beef, veggies, century eggs – so good), over the mains (Sichuan style pork in a corn bowl, peppered chicken bits in a bag, beef stew with noodles – all quite spicy and delicious), to the dessert (avocado ice cream and fried coconut cream), we enjoyed every bite of it. All courses were perfectly crafted, seasoned and arranged on pretty ceramic plates. Especially considering the price of 35€ per Person, the value was incredible. Also, since it was not too busy that night, the owner had time to explain every dish. He talked about the back stories of some of them, the special ingredients and Chinese/Sichuan philsosophy. All in all, we more than enjoyed our evening at Kong. It was a modern Chinese food and interior design experience, that we'll remember for a long time. Thank you!
