Historical place.Jinnah House (South Court) is a historic 2.5-acre, sea-facing bungalow in Malabar Hill, Mumbai, designed by architect Claude Batley in 1936 for Muhammad Ali Jinnah. It served as the venue for crucial 1946 partition talks. The Indian government now owns this Art Deco property and plans to convert it into a diplomatic enclave. Key Details About Jinnah House: Location: Bhausaheb Hirey Marg (Mount Pleasant Road), Malabar Hill, South Mumbai. Architecture: Designed in 1936 by Claude Batley with European style, Italian marble, and walnut wood, costing ₹2 lakh at the time. Historical Significance: It was the site of intense political negotiations in 1946 between Jinnah and Jawaharlal Nehru. Current Status: The building is in a somewhat neglected, derelict state. It is under the custody of the Ministry of External Affairs and is slated for renovation. Ownership Dispute: Pakistan has repeatedly requested to acquire the property for its consulate, while Jinnah 's daughter, Dina Wadia, previously claimed it. The property is currently treated as evacuee property rather than enemy property .
