There are little tables outsid... read more We stumbled upon this corner bar quite by accident when just looking for any bar. My travelling companion was gagging for a beer. There are little tables outside, high stools at the bar and large tables in the raised area inside. We took up 2 stools at the bar at 6pm. We had seen the sign outside saying Happy Hour 4-8, happy days we thought. In my limited German I ordered 2 large beers and paid €8. Not bad I thought as we were 100 yards from the Ku'dam one of Europe's swankiest shopping streets. Beers downed I ordered again and had the cash ready. The barman wouldn't take the money explaining in basic English that beer in Happy Hour is buy one get one free. €2 a beer, oh man this is a bar for us. The music played at the right level and the locals sat outside were shovelling the cocktails down like they were going out of fashion. The bar staff were working very hard, two bartenders and one waitress, but they smiled all the way through and we even managed conversation in broken German/English. 19:55 and time to order more beer to get the happy hour. We left around 20:45 as we were off for a curry but we returned after our meal. The bartender said that Happy Hour was over, I explained that was ok as we liked his bar. We stopped until about 01:00. I'd recommend this place to anyone.

The bar was quite stuffed with people but in a good way. It was lively and rather noisy which added up to the sitting for hours and forgetting time flair. A big downside to the absetz bar is that it 's an all smokers bar, which is rather annoying if you don 't smoke. If you don 't mind smoking you are definitely going to have a good time there!
