Reviews - La Mediterranee Berkeley
Reviews summary
La Med offers a mixed dining experience, with some customers loving the variety and quality of the food, while others were severely disappointed with the service and taste of the dishes. The ambiance is great for group gatherings or date nights, but the portion sizes may leave some feeling unsatisfied. Mediterranean lovers will enjoy the Middle Eastern Plate, Pomegranate Chicken, and Salmon Salad. On the other hand, some diners were appalled by the food quality, service, and even the pricing. Overall, La Med remains a popular spot in Elmwood for Mediterranean cuisine, but individual experiences may vary significantly.

An absolute must-visit!! We stopped by for some champagne and were absolutely blown away by the selection and hospitality of the staff!
The best wine shop with the best wines at any price. The new wine bar at the back is a gem, always good people there. I love how it feels like a local cozy European bar now with pillows, flowers, and a rug!
This remains one of my favorite restaurants in east bay, with a unique, explosive, and comforting vegan menu. Highly recommend the Vegan Meza, featuring the best babaganoush and must-try harissa walnut dip. Chef, waiters, and decor have amazing attention to detail. Thank you, La Mediterranee! Really good mediterranean fair. If it's your first time here, simply go for the MEDITERRANEAN MEZA plate (for 2 people). Will give you a sample of the best of their food. The variety itself makes this an option worth going for.
Delicious food, prompt and attention service, great ambiance and location. I've been a fan for years. Love it.
Berkeley at its best. The atmosphere is unbeatable. The service is excellent. The portions are large. The pomegranate chicken had plenty of flavor without too much oil or anything unhealthy.
Location. The food looked tasty, though all I can recommend is the Turkish Coffee and a seat at the tables outside for some excellent people watching on College Ave.
Great food, but.... I love their middle eastern platter little tastes of several different items like the spinach feta roll, the cinnamon y chicken roll with the chickpeas and raisins (I think), hummus and pita.... And the lemon chicken soup is awesome. But every time I've gone there (4 times now, I think), the service has had me doubting whether or not I'd go back. Call me crazy, but I like to be greeted by my server within 20 minutes of having sat down... And then my order taken soon after. Every time I've gone, I've either gotten the wrong soup or salad that I didn't order instead of the soup I did order, etc... And getting a refill on my drink? Out of the question. I'm also not a super picky person and will deal with getting the wrong items most of the time and will be generally pretty patient with slow service. And I know I would make a TERRIBLE waitress, and that it IS a challenging job, which is why I am not one. That said, I do keep going back because the food is so tasty.

The restaurant has great ambience and is perfect for a group gathering or a date night. However, the portion size was small for the price, particularly for the protein dishes. The most disappointing part of our visit was the service. Not only do they charge $1.5 per head for bringing our own birthday cake, but they really did not appear helpful or eager to help us when we asked for individual plates and utensils even though we were literally paying for the service that other places would have provided for free. We also had a server who kept trying to take away our plates even though there was plenty of food left in those dishes. Other staff members in the restaurant were more attentive to our requests but we really did not feel welcomed at all during the visit.
The salmon salad was delicious and the service dutiful Mediterranean style, loved it. Like family now, definitely return.Parking: Busy restaurant good, available parking bad ?
I'm giving zero stars and that's still too many. The server was rude, the food was the worse thing we have ever eaten our entire lives. It's as though the food is prepared in a crock pot days ahead of time. My husband's lamb schwamer was as though they poured a can of wet dig food on top of rice. Our bill was 103 dollars. We paid it and told them they could do whatever with the food. After taking one bite we all wanted to vomit. The manager ran outside and begged for forgiveness and my receipt so she could put the money back on our card. She lied she just wanted to look good in front of the outside seated customers. We don't care she can have the 103 we will never eat here again nor recommend it to anyone.
Excellent service and food, large portions, pleasant ambiance. Highly recommended. Everything was tasty and hot.Food: 5/5

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Berkeley. I always order the MIddle Eastern Plate; it lets you try a little of everything without the pressure of choice just one element. If it's your first time to Mediterranean, I definitely recommend one of the Sampler plates. The Pomegrante Chicken, Chicken Cilicia and Spinach Feta Fillos are great! This restaurant is almost always packed for dinner, so ready for a waiting period.
