Celebrated my husband birthday and took him out lunch. Perfect in every way. Beautiful food with amazing pure flavor. Love this place!
We seem to return quite often and love the option of outdoor seating ... allowing us to bring our small and very quiet dog for under the table seating. always a new dish worth trying and to share!
Iyasare offered a limited lunch menu today, featuring just two entrees: chirashi and pulled pork ramen. The decor is unusual compared to typical Japanese restaurants.
The service at Iyasare is amazing as always. The Gandara tempura, part of their menu, appeared like a salad but was soft, warm, and light, with a slightly mushy texture.
Considering embracing Japanese cuisine? Begin with Iyasare. Amid all the ramen frenzy, I find myself returning to Iyasare at least twice a month.
This Japanese restaurant in Berkeley offers a mix of traditional and modern dishes, with a unique twist on flavors. The menu includes a variety of options such as sashimi salad, curry specials, and sushi rolls. While some diners found the food to be heavy and lacking in authenticity, others enjoyed the interesting combinations and distinct flavors. The cocktails were praised for being creative and on point. The ambiance was described as casual chic, with excellent service both at the bar and on the patio. Overall, it seems like this restaurant is worth a visit for those looking for a unique Japanese dining experience in Berkeley.

Food was good, not inventive or absolutely delicious. Smaller portions than what price quality would call for. Drinks menu was great. Had called about adding birthday candles in for sister in the dessert I order twice before, and was twice told that it would be done but it wasn't. For this price range, would expect that level of simple service.
Lovely restaurant and one of my favorites in Berkeley. Great entrees and shared plates with a authentic Japanese flavor with a new twist. The cocktails are really special and worth a try as well!
This restaurant bills itself as authentic rustic Japanese, and given ratings and reviews I was excited to take my father there while he was visiting. The food was heavy and nowhere near authentic (the main dish is a spaghetti? and the flavor profiles are overwrought. For the quality of the food and the ambiance, this is also hardly a restaurant that should be taking a deposit for a reservation either. Steer clear if you're looking for good Japanese; you won't find it here.
Iyasare is absolutely amazing creative Japanese cuisine. Nothing like the normal sushi. A one of a kind food experience. Beyond words. We've eaten here several times. Yum. Reservations are really needed just about any time of the day. It's on Fourth St in Berkeley and there's plenty to see and do in the area. Plan an outing!
We went on a Tuesday night. We didn't realize that there is a limited menu on Tuesdays. Open Table says there is a special Ramen menu on Tuesdays in tiny print that we completely missed. But even if we had seen it, that doesn't communicate to the customer that the normal menu items won't also be available. Obviously we were disappointed. We ordered the sashimi salad, salmon and a ka'arage curry special. The sashimi salad was good. Very fresh fish. The salmon was overcooked and disappointing. I've had better teriyaki salmon at cheap Japanese restaurants. The special was interesting. Good but not great. The curry was more like an indian curry than an asian one. If I lived in the neighborhood I would come back on another night of the week to try the full menu. But since I don't, it's not worth the trek out there to try it again.

The service was excellent. My friend and I both ordered the char su ramen. I must say this was the finest bowl of ramen that I have ever eaten!
Amazing Japanese food with a modern twist but still displaying the ancient roots- flavours distinct , especially loved the grilled eggplant with miso . Definitely will be back! A little far from Toronto !
Each item was beautifully prepared, presented, and delicious. The Summer Sazarac, the scallop/foie gras, the hamachi sashimi, the prawn tempura triangles, the salmon, the duck risotto, the poached pear, the semifreddo, the green tea, the service, ambiance, vibe. All perfect.
Beautiful plating, interesting yet delicious flavor combo and friendly but not overly attentive staffs.
What an unexpected surprise! Delicious unique offering. You will not be disappointed

I think Iyasare is one of my top restaurants of all time and I think that says a lot. On St 4 in Berkeley, where the bar is high, I think this Japanese restaurant supplies high quality food, at a good price, with amazing service, and many available rooms. I was a sticker about highly rated restaurants that are not accessible to everyday people and often need months of prior notice or booking to board. We're going to celebrities or just to the daily meal. We usually get the kakiage, an amazing tempura yakitori-style dish that veggies served alongside huge shrimps. We ordered the rams, many of their fresh salads, Sushi/Chirashi and unagi donburi. You can't go wrong with anything in the menu.
Comfort Fest to say the least! We need the salad, the Karaage-Curry and the Chashu miso-Ramen all on the recommendation of our beautiful waiters. Everything was excellent, even tea! Karaage was the best I ever had, and I was in Tokyo. Maybe that's blasphemy to say, but it's true: Definitely a treat You yourself type of place, especially after a full day of walking and shopping around the 4th. Street!
Very good Michelin experience. Friendly staff, high quality foods and drinks. Good whiskey selection. As expected, a bit pricey, but worth the experience. Had bacon wrapped mochi, chicken Kara age curry bowl, and cheesecake for dessert.
Very elegant fare, and the waiters were entertaining. A diverse crowd of diners and the option of outdoor seating on the front patio, though I found the tables still a little closely spaced for Covid times. I wouldn't normally spend this much on a meal, and you can get something nice there for much less than the Omakase. The friend who invited me has champagne tastes
Excellent restaurant. The service was amazing. Very in tune with the flow of the dinner. I took my teens and they were even impressed. The food was spectacular and abundant. I was truly impressed by the quantity recieved with each dish. Very high quality. Bar was excellent. We will most definitely be back.

First time here but kind of disappointed. Besides the price is really high, the food taste is also off too much. However, the environment and service is very good. You need to make reservations or go there early to take the chance.
There’s not a lot of buzz on iyasare but it has become one of our absolute favorites in Berkeley with consistently yummy foods!!!! Our favs are the California rolls (with real crab pieces! , kakiage tempura with shrimp and bonito broth, bacongrilled mochi, and any of their salads and sushi are always wonderful. Seats can get pretty booked so make sure you reserveahead. And their crews are so attentive as well.

My partner and I decided to walk in after finding Iyasare on a best restaurants list, and we were in for a treat. Our host, Mariah, was so welcoming and gave us suggestions for every course of the meal. She suggested the Kakiage tempura with tigershrimp, this was one of the best foods I’ve ever had, I lived in Tokyo for three years and I have not seen this concoctionbefore, the texture, the taste, and the spices were perfect. The birria ramen was decent, a little salty, but the meat wascooked perfectly, and the hot sauce on the side was very spicy! The sake (salmon) ikura don was great, the ikura tastedamazing, and the salmon was fresh. The sushi rice could have maybe used a bit more flavor like vinegar. But very good. TheSakura cheesecake was a very tasty cheesecake topped with cherries and a red sweet sauce, but I am not sure where the Sakurapart came into play. The experience was great, especially the tempura and Mariah’s service, the tempura was exquisite andMariah brought a good energy to the experience.
We went when they opened (at 5:30) on a Saturday. While many people reserved, there were a few walk-ins (like us). If you are going to arrive any later than 5:30 on a weekend, I woud recomment reservations. So for the appetizer, we orered the IyasureKaklage Tempura. It seemed mostly of sweet potato, but it as fine with a nice presenation. Our family went with ramen. I wentwith the vegetable shoyu ramen and the rest had the chashu miso ramen. The vegatable was good but I wish they had a veganversion. It is always disappointing when you are in the bay area and the menu doesn 't offer a vegan option. The chashu wassalty for my wife and my kids thought it was too many vegetables in it. It would be nice if they offered to serve thevegetables on the side for children. Other than that, the serving size is rather large so go hungry or be prepared to throw alot of food away or take it home with you. We ordered a roll but it never came (though we were charged for it). The service wasgood though as the waiters were always quick to fill the water and the drinks came quickly. Costs will run you about$30-$40/person drinks so it may be spendy for some. Not sure if we will return and if we do, we 'll likely try the rolls asthey looked good as the waiters were brinking it out. My kids said they will not eat ramen in a place that doesn 't offertonkatsu.
