Four of us came in for an early pre-show dinner and were the first diners at Maybe I was expecting too much based on previous reviews, which were by-and-large very positive. Our water was a newbie because we had to repeat our drink and dinner orders to him several times The highs: good but small wine list, generous portions, comfortable ambience, and the wonderful yellow lentil soup. The lows: Amateurish service, bland food and seasonings, no complementary Naan, dry and overcooked meats in the Mixed Tandoori grill, an appetizer that seemed to be right out of the microwave oven With so many great restaurant choices in Albany/Berkeley, I have to say that our consensus was the place rates only stars on the night we dined there.
A very interesting menu that differs from other Himalayan restaurants I know: You can actually order a salad although the raw onions were very sharp. But leave those in the serving bowl, and the tomato, mozzarella, avocado and basil (those old Indian favorites with a vaguely Indian-spiced dressing are quite good. We then had the pumpkin chicken and coconut lamb curries both really delicious. Short grain brown rice was a tasty option. All the staff were friendly and helpful but service could use a little tuning up. They did not offer to replace our dinner plates that were gooshy with salad dressing. When the two entrees arrived, we had to request serving spoons, and then they brought only one; we then had to request a second. These are nits that this promising restaurant can easily fix with a bit more server training.
The food and service were excellent. I will definitely return!
Himalaya Tandoori is usually a to star dine for us and we come here often. The food is a cut above the normal Indian restaurant without much of a price premium. Quite often both service and food are stars here. Tonight both were because they had let their liquor license lapse and so were temporarily unable to serve alcohol and there were a few minor lapses in service. Still overall a great experience and we will keep returning on a regular basis
I absolutely love this food—it's just outstanding! The Palak Paneer is heavenly, and the goat stew deserves an A+. The lunch specials are fantastic, offering a great variety of entree options, and each special includes a cup of their incredible lentil soup, a small salad, a scoop of either basmati or brown rice, and naan. Parking is easy, making it a reliable spot for comfort food. They also offer a choice of spice levels. The service is efficient and friendly, with helpful explanations about the dishes.
Himalaya Tandoori restaurant offers a unique menu with Indian and Nepalese flavors. While some reviewers found the food bland and service lacking, others praised the delicious dishes like the butter chicken and Palak Paneer. The restaurant provides generous portions and a comfortable ambiance, with friendly service and options for various spice levels. Some minor service issues were noted on a recent visit, but overall, Himalaya Tandoori remains a top choice for those seeking authentic and flavorful Himalayan cuisine in the Albany/Berkeley area.

Excellent. We were lucky to find this place. The food is authentic and delicious. The naan was crisp on the outside and light in the middle, big as a full sized plate, but we could not eat it all (saved some for later).Food: 5/5
One of my favorite restaurants around here! Excellent flavors
The best chicken momo in the town. I am writing this while eating it. I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for an authentic experience of momo from himalayas. Hands down best ??????
Everything was great! If you get a few items you can go home with leftovers for the next day because it is filling and super delish. The chicken momo was yummy and flavorful as well as everything elseFood: 5/5
I really enjoyed this restaurant. The atmosphere is cozy, and some tables even are lined with white tablecloth; the seats nearing the windows look super cozy. Food came out quickly. My favorite is the lamb momos, very flavorful and unique. The naan is delicious, not too thick and crispy and light and delightfully buttery. The rogan josh is not as tomato-y as other places and quite similar to their basic curry. Best of all, it wasn't too expensive so great value for what you get, especially in the area.Vegetarian options: There is a vegetarian section in the menu for curries etc.

The best Indian cuisine in Berkeley! The flavors are incredible. Just make sure to place your order ahead of time, as dishes take 20-25 minutes to prepare.
All right. I cooked and seasoned fish Tandoori perfectly. Also chickens Tandoori, Samosas and Bhindi Bhaji. Everything was perfect. So good will definitely be back. I have to try the Mango Lassi. It was amazing. Support for small and local businesses. I'm sorry, no pictures like we were hungry.
I visited this restaurant for the first time during the COVID-19 pandemic, and I must say, they provide the best customer service I've ever experienced. The staff was incredibly friendly, the location is stunning, and the interior decorations are lovely. I enjoyed everything I ordered! Be sure to try their chicken momo and C Chicken momo—they're absolutely delicious! I'm in love!
We absolutely loved this place. As people who know how authentic Indian and Nepalese food taste, it may sometimes be difficult to find a good place. This place was not disappointed. We went here on a Saturday afternoon, and it wasn't busy at all. We sat right away and were looked through and through. We ordered chicken mamaos, chicken karahi and some garlic and Zilantro naan. There are 8 momos in a plate. The momos were juicy and met the place. Chicken carahi also tasted great, we liked that there was not much engraving in chicken carahi, and yet it was so tasteful. Naan was good too. To give you an idea of the portion sizes, everything was enough or 2 people. We also ordered the Chai at the end, and it brought me back to my days home in India. The food here is really authentic. The server was very fast looking for the customers. For example, we never had to ask for water, and she refilled our glasses. They have memories, and art from Nepal in the restaurant that gives a welcoming atmosphere to this place. Food prices are decent in view of the area and service. Expect to spend about 25-30 dollars per person when you eat a decent meal. There are street parking outside the restaurant, and it can be tight, or so it seemed. You can also park your car nearby and go to the restaurant. It is not a huge restaurant, but they do their best with the place available. You also have a toilet room. I'm back when I'm back in Berkeley. Thanks staff and restaurant for everything!
For once the reviews are correct. We had choice to choose among few but this place didnot disappointed us. We had a friend who was vegeterian and south asian restaurants are goto choices because of that challenge. We started with momo and paneer chilli. We nepali immigrants are notorious for judging a restaurant based on momo and i was really glad that i discovered this gem in our little food adventure because its momo passed my expectations. The chilli was good too. Then we ordered veg biryani and chicken vindaloo. Having never ordered vindaloo before at first i was surprised to find massive chunk of boiled potato and for first few serving i was like where is the chicken‽ . I should have known chicken vindaloo , if we break vindaloo ,i guess it is vindi aloo or alu which means potato. It wasnot bad just that i was not expecting alu or potato in my chicken. I ordered spicy but i had no problem with spice. But real star was veg biryani . And the portion was massive. We were glad we only ordered 1 plate . And we ordered cucumber raita to go with which again was coincidence but food god wanted us to really enjoy our dinner . We should have taken picture of food and friends but the food was so good, talk was so spontaneous I completely forgot about that : . Thank you himalayan tandori for this experience.

We absolutely loved this place. As people who know what authentic Indian and Nepalese food tastes like, finding a good place can be sometimes difficult. This place didn’t disappoint. There is street parking outside the restaurant, and itcan be tight, or so it seemed. However you can park your car close by as well and walk to the restaurant. It’s not a hugerestaurant, but they do their best with the space available. They’ve a restroom inside as well. I’ll be back here wheneverI’m in Berkeley again. Thank you staff and the restaurant for everything!

I went there first time during COVID-19 . They-do literally the best costumer service. The people were so nice , the location is beautiful, the decorations inside is so pretty. I love everything I ordered! Please don?t miss their chicken momo and C Chiken momo ??? yummmmyyy lovee !
I had a wonderful experience at this restaurant. The atmosphere is inviting, with some tables dressed in white tablecloths, and the seats by the windows are particularly cozy. The food was served promptly. My favorite dish was the lamb mamaos, which were flavorful and distinctive. The naan was delightful—perfectly crispy and light, with a lovely buttery taste. The raw josh had a different flavor profile compared to other places I've tried, resembling their basic curry. Best of all, it wasn't overly expensive, offering great value for the quality of food, especially in this area.
This is an excellent Nepalese restaurant with fantastic goat dishes, daal, rice, and naan. We had a delightful lunch, and the service was friendly and attentive.

I was excited for all the positive reviews. At first glance, portion size was good. A nice amount of rice (that came in one box) for the two dishes we got. But I dont know really know how there are so many positive reviews. Maybe the reviewers are people with uninspired taste buds? We got the top 3 favorites. Chicken Tikka Masala, Butter Chicken, and Garlic Cilantro Naan. Both dishes tasted very similar and were bland. Not inedible but we wouldnt order again if these are the top dishes.
This restaurant consistently serves fresh and delicious food! The cheese naan is absolutely incredible! I also love the fish tandoori, palak paneer, and butter chicken – they are some of my favorites. Everything here is fantastic. I always bring my friends and family when they want to enjoy Indian cuisine.
Nav Korma is missing some authentic ingredients and has instead been substituted with large pieces of cauliflower.
Always excellent. Thank you for a wonderful dinner! The Boti Kebab was as juicy as ever.
Likely the best or second best in its category

This restaurant features a distinctive menu that sets it apart from other Himalayan eateries. While the raw onions in the salad were quite sharp, the blend of tomato, mozzarella, avocado, and basil—with a touch of Indian spices in the dressing—was enjoyable. Both the pumpkin chicken and coconut lamb curries were delicious, and the short grain brown rice made for a tasty accompaniment. The staff was friendly and helpful, although there were some areas for improvement in service. There were issues with dinner plates being left dirty from the salad dressing, and there weren't enough serving spoons provided. These minor concerns could easily be resolved through additional server training. Overall, this restaurant has great potential and could truly shine with a few adjustments.
We usually give Himalaya Tandoori a rating of 4 to 5 stars and visit quite often. The food surpasses typical Indian restaurant offerings without a substantial price hike. Most of the time, both the service and food are top-notch, at a 5-star level. However, tonight's visit was a bit different because their liquor license had expired, meaning they couldn't serve alcohol temporarily, and there were a few minor service hiccups. Nevertheless, we still had a fantastic overall experience and intend to keep coming back regularly.
I absolutely love the food at this restaurant! The Palak Paneer is delicious, and the goat stew is exceptional. Their lunch specials are fantastic, offering a great variety of options. For just $7.99, you can enjoy a cup of lentil soup, a small salad, basmati or brown rice, and two naans. Parking is convenient, and the service is both efficient and friendly. It's a wonderful place for comfort food, with the added bonus of being able to choose your spice level. I would give it a full 5 stars!

Great place for Indian and Nepalese food, with a lot of options. I tried Paneer Tikka Masala with Brown Rice, and thought it was pretty good (although it could have been a little more spicy). Great service as well. If you don't find parking in Solano Street or simply don't want to pay, you can find some free street parking around 7-10 mins walk from the restaurant (for example, Marin Ave near the fountain). Food is great, people are welcoming, atmosphere is cozy. Highly recommend the chicken curry lunch special and the chai. The chai is the best I’ve ever had and I crave it often. Chicken curry is flavorful and filling, and among the best in the east bay. I want to try more items off the menu but I can’t help but continue to order my favorites.
