Reviews - Heat Café
Reviews summary
Tucked near Shattuck in Berkeley, this small, cozy Chinese spot serves authentic, spicy dishes with attentive, speedy service and excellent value—especially at lunch. Many plates are flavorful and hot, with standout items like twice‑cooked pork and green beans; portions and prices satisfy budget diners. Seating is limited (about 16), so it’s ideal for takeout or a quick meal. A few dishes can be uneven or occasionally missing from the menu, but overall it’s an underrated, affordable find.
Was Marbo Cheng at Heat Café a mag?
I tried their beef brisket and scrambled egg shrimp chow fun, and both dishes were quite good. However, I was a bit disappointed that they didn’t have twice-cooked pork and tomato beef on the menu. View all feedback.
What Burdette Casper dislikes about Heat Café:
beef chow fun is flavorless the clams are OK, and mapo tofu is OK too. good for takeout as place is rather small. easily accessible from shattuck. the waitstaff is friendly and helpful too. View all feedback.

The lunch special offers great value, and the service is quick. The restaurant has limited seating for only 16 customers and accepts credit cards. However, the food reminded me of Panda Express in flavor.

Wonderful find! Small Chinese restaurant featuring a variety of authentic, spicy dishes. Service was quick, attentive, considerate. Food was outstanding: hot, but full of flavor beyond the heat. Prices were very reasonable; two of us enjoyed a filling meal for about $25. Would definitely recommend return.
Affordable and delicious Chinese cuisine. Convenient location with friendly service.

Great lunch option with good value. Service was quick. The restaurant has a cozy capacity of 16 seats. They accept credit cards. The food had a similar flavor profile to Panda Express.
Small, but generally dependable menu consisting of various common Chinese dishes. Chef specials are hit-or-miss. Love the twice cooked pork!
