Shattuck Avenue Spats - Reviews

Was Raquel Flechero at Shattuck Avenue Spats a mag?
The chicken wings were absolutely delicious; we went for the half and half option. We also shared some fried rice and noodles, both of which were quite tasty. However, the chicken wrap was my least favorite—the mayo and soggy lettuce didn’t appeal to me. Overall, we'll definitely be returning to try more items on the menu. View all feedback.
What Tiia Riihimäki dislikes about Shattuck Avenue Spats:
Food is delicious as with other Bonchon locations. However my coworkers and I ordered ahead through the website hoping to pick up and have time to eat on our lunch break but food was not ready when we arrived at the designated pickup time. We had to wait an additional 30 minutes to get our food. Though they offer curbside pickup online, there aren’t many parking spaces and no designated curbside pickup spot. Probably... I recently dined at Bonchon with a large group of 10 people. Unfortunately, they only have tables that seat up to 8, so we had to add two extra chairs at the ends. Four of us shared a small order of strips, which turned out to be a great choice with their delicious soy garlic flavor. The strips were thin but surprisingly tender and moist for white meat. The drumsticks were impressively large, and their crispy skin was delightful. Of course, after some time, the chicken does lose its crunch and warmth as expected. Some of the dark meat on the drumsticks was a bit dry, but that wasn’t a major issue. The service, however, was a bit slow toward the end; we had to wait a while for the check, even after we had requested it. Expect to spend around $15 per person for a group meal!
The chicken wings were quite delicious; we ordered a half-and-half variety. We also shared some fried rice and noodles, both of which were very tasty. However, the chicken sluice was my least favorite—the mayo and soggy salad didn't appeal to me. We’ll definitely return to try more dishes!
When they say spicy here, they mean it. I ordered Spicy Rice Cakes with chicken that was delicious and super hot. I had to end it hot the next day. I couldn't make a picture of it because I couldn't see my tears. Of course I'm going back!

I absolutely love this hidden gem! It has three roomy areas, including a dance floor, providing a wonderful large space for a night out.
Very rude man in bar, bad experience there had nerve to have attitude towards a senior, bisabled blk woman. Who was going to rent space but was asked rudely what she wanted while sitting at bar. She stated she doesn't have to drink to sit at bar, she already had cup of water in hand. Would not go here again.

It's cool on Fridays around 11 pm. They have spin the wheel drinks, n some arcade machines, pool table in the back. Sometimes there's a live band

So, on a busy Friday night, I decided to treat myself to a new dining experience since I'd had a good week. After navigating what I can only describe as a chaotic urban landscape on Milvia Street—seriously, it feels like a civil engineering nightmare—I stumbled upon Banchan, located directly across from the central Berkeley firehouse. The interior is sparsely decorated; at first glance, it resembles a pub, microbrewery, or bar, lacking any notable decor aside from a few dusty beer bottles. However, my curiosity got the better of me. Upon entering, I was warmly greeted by a friendly woman who spoke Spanish, which is a common occurrence in East Bay Asian restaurants where Latino staff often work front-of-house or in the kitchen. I always make it a point to acknowledge their presence and appreciate their hard work. I decided to switch things up and order something different instead of my usual Bibimbap or hot pot. I went for the 'Bull Dak,' a decision that elicited a laugh from a couple seated behind me—who later revealed they were a lesbian couple. If you understand the humor, you get it, but thankfully, they were not offended and I found their reaction quite amusing. Bull Dak is spicy hot chicken served on a sizzling metal plate, accompanied by scallions, a zesty sauce, and Korean rice cakes. These rice cakes are more of a chewy noodle than what one might typically think of as a cake, but their texture pairs perfectly with the chicken. A small serving of white rice came on the side, and I thoroughly enjoyed the entire dish. Before leaving, I made a point to express my gratitude to the kitchen staff, which I always do when I visit a restaurant I like. I genuinely believe it's important to acknowledge their hard work and make them feel appreciated, and who knows, maybe I can inspire others to do the same! The Korean owners were exceptionally nice, taking the time to explain how the food is prepared in Korea, the significance of the rice cakes, and even talked about some of the pictures on the walls. Overall, I had a fantastic time. Although I only ordered one dish, I plan to return to try more. What I really appreciated was finding a quiet spot to enjoy my meal amidst the Friday night hustle. Thanks, Banchan!
