What Joanne Ludowyk dislikes about Akemi:
We've been here a few times and this time was the best. Our group ordered a variety of things and all of them were good. They have an extensive sushi/roll menu but also enough other things for those in our group who didn't eat sushi. View all feedback.

One of our all time favorite Japanese restaurants. Highest quality of ingredients, delicious and unique menu offerings from sake list to dessert. I took my wife there for her birthday and am always impressed by how much we enjoy coming here. It’s romantic, beautiful flower arrangements and so grateful for music that adds to the ambience. We’ll be back.
Food was excellent. The tofu and brussel sprouts appetizers were to die for. The akemi role is my favorite, fresh and crunchy
Nice quiet lunch. Food and service were good. Try it
Had a mixed experience here. The sweet shrimp quality is excellent. The okinawayaki is excessively oily and salty, exacerbated by the sauce. The black cod is alright, but the overdose of okinawayaki makes it a bit overwhelming. The karaage is good, but the overall discomfort caused by the excessive oil and salt, particularly in the okinawayaki, impacts the overall experience.
Very good food and service! Definitely a place to go.
Akemi is a charming neighborhood restaurant that offers a variety of delicious Japanese dishes. While some reviewers were disappointed with the portion sizes and the quality of certain dishes, others praised the freshness of the sushi and the attentive service. The cozy atmosphere, friendly staff, and accommodating nature towards dietary restrictions make Akemi a great spot for a special night out or a casual meal with friends. With a diverse menu including sushi, sashimi, salads, and dinner entrees, Akemi is a must-visit for those looking for well-crafted food at a local BYOB restaurant. While some dishes may leave guests wanting more, the overall experience at Akemi is bound to satisfy foodies looking for an interesting and beautifully plated meal.

Reception and food always top. A sure bet. Bring your own wine as well. Deserves regular visits.
Warm atmosphere, delicious meals, tender meat! We have adored! Thanks to the owner!
Amazing, authentic couscous!!Try the lamb and make sure to take the mint tea after dinner - the best!
The salad and bread were very goodThe main dishes were ok but very very small portions I welcome small plates when they are priced accordingly. The main courses were priced between $40-$ 32 .
This is our new favorite local BYOB spot. We've been twice now. The staff is very warm and friendly and the food is superb. If you like well crafted food and are willing to pay for very interesting tasting, beautifully plated food then this is a great place to go. We've been twice and both times they have been great with dietary restrictions as well. It's charming, casual enough to walk in (if you can get in!) but also a great place to take visiting friends and relatives or for a special night out or date. The Wayne area needed a place like this. We'll keep going back for sure.

While the food was okay (and really just that- okay), the service was pretty awful. It took almost an hour to get an order in, and they messed up our initial food order. We almost didn't receive one of the items we ordered until two dishes that we did NOT order arrived at the table (which is when the mistake was realized and quietly fixed nearly 45 minutes after ordering, without any acknowledgement). Additionally, we had to continually ask the food runner to order whenever we wanted more food. We were continuously not checked in with to see we needed anything. Overall, the service felt targeted. It appeared that the tables filled with middle/aged white people received regular, attentive service compared to that of my partner and I (a young, interracial couple). While not hugely important, we were also underwhelmed with the decor, although the glassware was nice. Akemi's only redeeming qualities were the Brussels sprouts and the Yuzu panna cotta, which were beautifully prepared and delicious. If you are looking for a nice dinner spot this is not it. We will not be back.
Great food and service! Glad to have Akemi in the neighborhood!
I was there with my 18-year old grandson and two of his friends. They are heartily and enjoyed everything. I had a lovely meal. It was perfect for the day.

1st time visit for a birthday dinner. Shared a sampler of sake. Really enjoyed the Cucumber salad; haven't had anything like it before. Sashimi for him, tempura for me; perfect portions and all good!

I had a great experience at Kamikaze! The Mixed Tempura was fantastic and I absolutely loved everything about it.
Although the food at this restaurant is generally good, I would recommend avoiding the Wagyu steak. Priced at $36, you only get about 3oz of steak, making it not worth the cost. The portion size is extremely small, with one pocket of the takeout container filled with rice, another with slaw, and tiny strips of steak on top. The large pocket of the container is completely empty, leaving you feeling ripped off. Overall, I was disappointed with the meal and felt it was not worth the price. It is rare for me to feel this way, but in this case, I am genuinely upset about what I received.
The sushi rolls were delicious, but there was hardly any tobiko in them this time.
Excellent very fresh sushi perfectly prepared
Fresh, real crab, good Lion King

This place was fantastic. The service was 100%. The restaurant ambiance was five star. I really liked this restaurant, but I didn't think that cost was accurate for the taste. I thought the food was good but everything else was incredible. I love how they do their sake set up too! Food: 3 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
