Reviews - Abstract Table
Reviews summary
Nestled in an outdoor setting, this restaurant offers a visually appealing but inconsistent dining experience. While a few dishes shine with creative combinations and delicate flavors, many reviews express disappointment with mediocre food and high prices. The ambiance suffers from lackluster decor and chilly temperatures, detracting from the charm of its greenhouse vibe. Service can be slow, but attentive staff occasionally redeem the experience. Diners have highlighted standout items like the mushroom cappuccino and inventive appetizers, yet the overall consensus is that the execution falls short of expectations, leaving many reconsidering their choice in Berkeley’s vibrant culinary scene.

As usual, the food was top notch. One of the best meals I've had this year. Even the items that seem to be common when read on the menu are spectacular when they arrive on the plate. View all feedback.
What TedC dislikes about Abstract Table:
First to note is that all the tables are outside and not particularly nice. Just cheap metal tables. The fog rolled in and we were all cold despite the single heater in the middle of the space. My mom’s wine had turners to vinegar and my glass of red wine was ice ice cold. Clearly it was an open bottle that just came out of the fridge. All the food was mediocre to bad. It looked nice but the taste just wasn’t there. View all feedback.

Everything we had was both delicious and inventive. Among the many things they do right, one of the most uncommon is that their napkins are soft, absorbent cotton (vs. the typical white polyester cloth that just wipes water back and forth without absorbing it). Their outdoor heaters are very good, too.
Beautifully presented courses that are good time and well paired with some fun crying. loved the outdoor ambiance with the fire pit and beautiful courtyard. great experience!
I wanted to love this restaurant, but the experience was uneven. the cost of food are usually small portions very high. a fish bowl was fantastically paired with greens and root plant mix. while a mushroom dish in the ground two large mushroom flowers on a Blandish yogurt sauce. a tiny Romaine salad, paired with a tiny roggentoast with roe, was tasty, but easy to poke fun. I would encourage the restaurant to increase the game on taste and price a bit. the personal was wonderful and we loved the night in the free for a two person tab.
Food was good, but incredibly overpriced for what it was and for portion size. A very small piece of halibut with some sautéed tomatoes was $45. Looking at it, I would have expected it to be closer to $25 or $30. Had same experience with appetizer. I’m also someone who indulges often and happily. Ambiance was great (back patio with heaters and plants). Friendly service. But I would not return or recommend it to anyone.
Service was a little slow to start, they might be short staffed but once they caught up 5 stars all around. We ordered the entire menu and there was not one dish we didn’t enjoy. The mushroom cappuccino was everyone’s favorite but I particularly appreciated the Waygu beet dish as I hate beets and this dish made me love them! The ocean trout was another favorite if you like playing with flavors textures you will love abstract table!

I have visited this restaurant multiple times and have had enjoyable experiences each time. The dishes are intricate and feature delicate flavors. There are some very creative combinations, like the anchovy crusted lamb with fennel and pear herb salad sauce or a squid ink dressed salad. My favorite dish this month was the sake poached mussels with strawberries. The sweet and tart flavors, paired with the savory broth, complemented each other perfectly. The uni cream with the black garlic rice that accompanied the ocean trout was also unforgettable. The only critique is that some of the dishes could use a more visually appealing presentation. Overall, the food here is delicious and I look forward to see what will be on the next menu.
The food was excellent, the wine selection was fantastic, and the ambiance was very romantic.
I attended a birthday party at this restaurant with a pre set menu and was not disappointed! The service was excellent, the outdoor dining area was charming, and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The dishes were particularly generous with avocado and the waffle was delicious. I would definitely return to try more items from their menu. The only downside was the limited parking available.
Really interesting dishes without being pretentious. Love the back patio with heat lamps. Everything we had was delicious and our server was great. Would definitely come back again.
