What IgelEye doesn't like about Taverne Mykonos:
During my last visit in May, 2014 I noticed that the food was very ordinary. The meat was served with frozen chips. There was no sauce served with it, not even a bit of tsatziki, so it was very dry. The salad is also nothing special. View all feedback.
We entered the restaurant and we’re greeted appropriately. We were given a table near the exit and sat there. Our drink orders were taken 1 wine 1 beer and a greek coffee. We were asked if we wanted something to eat and 1 of the 3 people in our group said we wanted some meat to share with our drinks, since we’ve just eaten and only came to have a drink. The owner which took the order said he understood and that he’ll arrange something. He specifically asked, “is some liver okey?” The wine and the beer arrived and after that the owner started smoking at the bar. Inside the restaurant. I’ve read some reviews now, and people have complaint before about it, but he hasn’t changed his behavior. Half an hour later we’re served a very big plater with mixed meats and half the plater filled with fries. It did include 2 small pieces of liver. It didn’t feel right and we should’ve denied the food. Being me I didn’t want to make a fuss about it, but I should’ve at that moment. Maybe he misread the situation, I understand that that can happen sometime. The coffee ordered had not arrived yet and we cancelled it since it’s not great with a Greek dish. Sadly the food wasn’t great either. The gyros was far too salty/marinated with too many spices. The pork souvlaki was so dry. The liver was half burned. When we asked the bill, it took some time. And while he was saying other visitors goodbye he rushed by our table and said it’s 100€ and moved on. We looked at each other and said he’s joking right? So we called him back and said are you serious? He said “no man, haha. It’s 60€”. By then I was slightly irritated. One of my friend which invited us there paid, but I went and asked for the bill to check, since I didn’t believe a plater and 3 drinks cost 60€! I asked for the bill and he told me. “No man”. I asked again and he told me “We don’t do that here we’re a greek restaurant”. Then I told him I needed it for my declaration, and he responded with “You should’ve told me at the start you wanted a bill. Your table was over 100€ billed I helped you making it 50€, it can’t be 50 if I bill you”. He even forgot he took 60€ from us 2 minutes ago! While the dishes on the menu varied from 8,50 -12,50 up till 20 something. Basically he ripped us off and he made no bill. Sadly if I knew we weren’t getting the bill I would’ve prevented my friend from paying but it was too late. Besides asking again (getting angry which I didn’t want in a restaurant) we left. The owner clearly doesn’t care about illegal activities which makes me wonder what else he’s doing besides the obvious things we can see (smoking inside, no bill). I’d never lay a foot in that place again. TL;DR; The owner smoking next to us inside. We asked for a bit of meat, because we told him “we just ate” with our drinks and got a big dish served. He joked about the bill asking 100€ and when asked again he said 60€. We insisted on a bill, but didn’t get one.
After last year's disappointing meal, I'm pleased to report that the standard of the food has improved greatly. The chips/fries were well seasoned and cooked.. This time, there was a portion of tsatsiki with the gyros as standard. The service wasn't particularly friendly, but efficient more German than Greek ;
We have been here several times and never been disappointed. The restaurant offers good basic Greek food at an affordable price. The service is friendly and efficient. Recommended!
