My wife and I, on vacation, had dinner at Punta Corcho for the first time this July. We love going to Puerto Morales, a beautiful little fishing village on the Mexican, Riviera Maya coast and an employee at our hotel recommended that we try Punta Corcho. What a great recommendation. We had desert and coffee there the prior evening and had a good idea that dinner was going to be great. We were not disappointed! We had planned on ordering ceviche, soup and salad before ordering a main course. But, after the three pre-dinner dishes were put on the table we knew that we wouldn't make it to a main course. We were also served homemade chips and salsa. The soup was wonderfully spicy and full of fresh fish and shrimp. It's always been my strategy that you can judge a restaurant by its soup. This being the case, Punta Corcho knocked it out of the park! Next came the ceviche. Again, lots of spicy fish and shrimp cooked in vinegar with onions, peppers, etc. We ate our ceviche on crackers and more homemade chips. And finally we had a beautiful salad with fresh dark green lettuce, radishes, tomatoes, and a nice vinaigrette dressing. Regardless of the size of the above portions we did order dessert. We had Punta Corcho's Chocolate Volcano Cake with ice cream, and two cups of cappuccino. Mexican coffee is some of the best in the world. Lastly, Punta Corcho is a really beautiful restaurant with a great staff! On the second floor, of the southeast corner of the Puerto Morales town square this little restaurant offers views of families on the square and the ocean complete with a lovely sea breeze. If you're in the area just west of Cancun, don't miss Puerto Morales and Punta Corcho!

We ate here our first night, and were blown away by the complexity of flavors, the creativity of ingredients, the cool ocean breeze, and very sweet staff. We ate a different restaurants in town for the next three nights to see what else was out there, and then came back to Punta Corcho for every other meal we ate during our vacation. The octopus gorditas and the duck enchiladas with pepita sauce were outstanding, and this coming from someone who has never enjoyed either of those meats! We only wish we'd had room for the desserts- they looked delicious as well!
