This was my first visit to Shangri-la Bengaluru. The hotel was beautiful. Loved the lobby fragrance. Yataii was on 18th storey. It was a weekend and there was a wedding dining near to us so loud but nice music could be heard. We made reservations earlier via their website earlier. We were seated comfortably near the windows. As the air-conditioning was fairly cold on a drizzling night, the female service staff gave me a blanket for warmth. We ordered the individual set dinner. Food presentation scored the highest point in my opinion. Sashimi, tuna and sushi rolls were fresh. Seared scallops tasted great but the size were a little small flat. The pace the dishes were served was good too, no rushing. Japanese fried rice was delicious, finally I could taste genuine Japanese rice. The only thing I would suggest was that their dessert should do away with ice cream breakfast cereals accompaniment. I could eat this at other places. I feel they could include Japanese matcha mini crepe or Japanese chestnut crepe. Some Japanese pastries would be good too. I also feel that they could include hot Japanese green tea in the set to make it more palatable high CP value. Overall, it was a good dinner. Great ambience. Polite Chef. Attentive crew. Dinner at Yataii in the Shangri-La was every bit the five-star experience we hoped for. From the moment we entered, the hotel’s floral arrangements set the scene, lush, curated, and unmistakably grand. We were seated by the French windows overlooking Bangalore’s city lights. The view added its own quiet drama, we were dining high above the rush below. The evening began with a Bellini, crisp and elegant, with just enough peach to keep it refreshing without overpowering the prosecco. And a dirty martini which was flawless – cold, salty, and clean on the palate, served exactly as it should be without any additional theatrics. We began our meal with the flamed nigiri, a fantastic decision because the eel was the standout – juicy, smoky, and rich without being heavy. Just the right amount of umami. The chicken karaage was simple but perfect: crisp, light, and deeply savoury. The ceviche was bright and balanced, letting the tuna shine while bringing in just the right citrus edge. The wok-tossed tenderloin with rice was generous and well-executed – the meat tender and flavourful, the sauce coating each grain of rice with intention. Dessert reminded us what world class hospitality truly is. We ordered the stuffed peach with Forelle chocolate, which arrived warm and delicately sweet. When we mentioned we couldn’t eat too much dessert, our server quietly offered half portions of both the stuffed pear and the matcha cheesecake so we could try everything without feeling overwhelmed. Such thoughtful service done with efficient confidence. They closed the meal with a complimentary chocolate mousse layered over sponge cake for my friend’s birthday. It was rich and smooth, beautifully presented, and a perfect ending. Yataii knows exactly what it is – an elegant Japanese restaurant in a grand hotel, delivering quality without losing warmth. They made my friend’s birthday feel special in the way only true five-star hospitality can. We love Japanese food and this hit all the right spots. We ordered multiple things and ate till our stomachs were full. Every single dish was made perfectly and it was as authentic as food in Japan. We ordered miso soup, 2-3 types of sushi, mixed seafood fried rice and dessert. It was perfection Price per person: ₹2,000+ Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
I am a huge fan of Japanese food to top it I am a vegetarian. I have practically dined at every Japanese restaurant in Bengaluru I can so confidently vouch for Yataii above all other Japanese restaurants. The moment you enter the restaurant you are welcomed by a member of Vidur’s (manager) team. They ensure that you are comfortably seated then go on to share the menu they also know what to recommend in terms of dishes that would match ones taste buds. The taste of the food is impeccable the options that they have for even vegetarians like me are amazing. Even to this day I try to visit other Japanese restaurants but end up choosing Yataii as they don’t match up to these guys in terms of service, food ambience. Also, their bar creates some really tasty mocktails cocktails, I highly recommend anyone reading this review to give these guys at least one try most likely it won’t be your last.
