Man pies, I love you. I would 100% recommend the lamb pie. It has carrots and peas and mashed potatoes inside and hot out of the oven it is absolutely divine for a chilly Bellingham day. Pies are about $8 a piece after tax, so not something I'd buy often, but it's a fairly filling hand pie, and very delicious, so I would not say it's more expensive than it's worth. PSA: they will sell you frozen pies they haven't bak... View all feedback.
What Aleta N doesn't like about Man Pies:
This place was pretty good! Don't love the name which is why we never tried it before. The pie was really good but there was no seasoning in the filling or even in the gravy. The crust was the only thing with any salt. The aesthetic of the place was pretty fun with the wood tables and all. Love how they have only recyclable and compostable products. The staff is awesome and so kind. Really liked it here but only givi... View all feedback.
Simplicity at its best. Pot pies. All kinds to fit all kinds of diets and latest food trend. And if pot pies are not your thing, maybe they should be. It's not a fancy restaurant, it's comfy. It's not a 5 Star place, but it certainly isn't lacking because of concept. There are no waiters/waitresses. There are no bus boys but yourself. There isn't a huge menu, but you still have options and choices. The dessert menu consists of sometimes two items, but dang it, they still satisfy the sweet tooth after a meal. And drinks? Yup. They offer that as well. So while you may think this place doesn't offer much, it sure does offer comfort food at its best. Sit, enjoy, and take in the local artwork displayed on the walls by some talented kids from the area. Live, love, eat Bellingham!
Had the lamb pie with the gravy. It was a little dry but gravy did make it better even though I'm not the biggest gravy fan). I'm not sure if I would want to return for seconds, it's good but not fantastic. I think the name draws attention to have very meaty hearty pies but it was average. We stopped in Bellingham after a long weekend in Vancouver. A friend who attended Western a few years ago recommended this spot. Mashed potatoes with beef gravy. We were starved so this was a great start to the meal. Nice, smooth mashed potatoes that had flavor on its own. The beef gravy added more depth to the dish. Curry chicken with chicken gravy. Indian spices but with no spicy kick. Chicken pieces were tender and crust was wonderfully flaky. This was really good, but then we had a bite of the: Roasted vegetable curry with tomato gravy. This was recommended by staff and the best item we tried here. The seasonings were the same as the curry chicken but the spice flavorings were more intense; we think the vegetables absorbed the spices better than the chicken. Again, zero spicy in terms of pepper, but a wonderful flaky crust. The tomato gravy (very similar to tomato soup) acted like tomatoes do in Indian cooking and complimented the filling really well. Other Yelpers have mentioned their distaste with the price, but we appreciated that the upfront pricing, which included mashed potato sides and unlimited gravy. We also appreciated how much the staff person really believed in the menu items. We totally bought into it and it was totally worth buying into.
Overall, pie is good but overpriced. We went to the shop around 2:30pm and wanted to get an apple pie and the special pie (forgot what it was but something bacon). However both were sold out so we had the braised beef instead. It was fresh out of the oven and tasted good, and I especially like the crust. However $11 for a pie seemed pricey though.
