Ambo Ethiopian Cuisine - Bellingham

This is likely the best dining experience in Bellingham. The flavor pairings are fantastic and not too overpowering. The food is filling without leaving you feeling bloated. I'm not usually a fan of spicy food, but the subtle heat in this dish really hit the spot, awakening a taste sensation I didn't know I had. Absolutely delicious!

This family-owned restaurant offers authentic Ethiopian cuisine in a casual setting at affordable prices. It was our first time visiting and we were pleased with the experience. They have a selection of drinks available, including soda, hard seltzer, and kombucha. The restaurant has a few simple tables for dining in. The food arrived quickly after we ordered and it was evident that they have a loyal customer following. The home-style cooking was both interesting and delicious, with full and half size portions available. The half portion was generous, consisting of a one-pot main dish and a side served on their flatbread, similar to an unsweetened pancake. The cottage cheese was fresh and served chilled.

Highly recommended! The food was delicious and incredibly authentic. The lamb stew (alicha wat) was tender and perfectly seasoned, providing a generous portion for sharing with a second cup and two sides. The carrots served alongside were particularly tasty. Don't miss the chicken stew (doro wat); it was flavorful, well-spiced, and served piping hot.

Excellent taste. the hüttenkäse was a great side for the doro wat. would like to see a family-run sampler dish on the menu.

Beef stir fry with homemade cottage cheese. Delicious!
