Toshi - Beaverton
Toshi
Description
Toshi’s serves earnest, old-school Japanese fare—fresh sashimi, expertly crafted sushi, hot miso and satisfying ramen—in a small, memorabilia-filled space popular with locals. Service can be brisk and friendly but slows when packed; prices have risen and occasional ingredient or temperature issues are reported. Regulars praise the chef’s skill and authentic flavors, though limited seating and weekend closures mean you should expect a cozy, bustling experience. Ideal for sushi and ramen lovers who prioritize quality over bargains.

I visited this restaurant for the first time in August 2023 and had an amazing experience. The prices were great, the fish was fresh, and the atmosphere was cozy. However, when I returned in March 2024, I noticed that the price of the same dish had increased by nearly 140%. Additionally, I observed that they had switched to using less expensive fish. While I understand that inflation can drive up prices, I was disappointed with the decline in food quality during my second visit. I really wish they could maintain a consistent level of quality.
The sushi here is outstanding—definitely the best I’ve had in a long time. The service is great as well. I’ve already returned for a second visit and will definitely be back again!
It's definitely worth the drive from Portland if you're craving authentic sushi, especially when there's a two-week wait to get into Kaede. Although it's not cheap, with many rolls priced around nine dollars, the quality makes it worthwhile. Everything was excellent, starting with the miso soup. We ordered some $24 sushi, lunch specials, yakitori, and a variety of nigiri. There were also some tempting cooked lunch specials, like miso salmon. I will surely be returning!
If you love authentic Japanese food. You might find what you like. However, I think it’s overpriced. I spent $30+ for a Toshi Nabe that is supposed to come with scallop but I only find a mussel. It took a long time to cook somehow but I don’t feel I am getting what I paid for. Meal type: Lunch Price per person: $30–50 Food: 2 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 2
