What Isaac Jones doesn't like about Pump Room Restaurant:
We enjoyed the experience but it felt like we had gone back in time where the decor and carpeting were all a little faded and tired. It was crowded and noisy and we could hear other conversations close to us not very intimate The tea was yummy but very expensive were the scones home-made? View all feedback.
We came here on a bit of a whim, owing to its central location right next to the Baths. Having not booked we were greeted warmly and offered a table near the stage. It was wonderful to be able to hear the musicians so well but it wasn’t so loud as to be overly distracting and we were still able to converse and enjoy our afternoon tea with this accompaniment. The room itself deserves comment too- absolutely beautiful, it feels like a decidedly appropriate setting for a grand afternoon tea. The food itself was delicious. Sandwiches, savouries and cakes were almost perfect and you could taste their quality. When you’re presented with an afternoon tea it always feels you’re being ripped off, as though there is very little food for your money but, as ever, it was very filling and just the right amount of food. The quality and attention to detail further justifies the price for me. After our warm welcome the service deteriorated a little as well. It was nigh impossible to get a second pot of tea/ some hot water and when I did manage to ask it was treated almost as an imposition. It also took us an age to be able to pay the bill- although I could have happily sat in that splendour all afternoon.
The very best Afternoon Tea I have ever experienced and would highly recommend. The ambience, the amazing food and the musical composition made the whole experience a once in a lifetime experience. As a vegan, it seems difficult for most places to cater for me, especially when it comes to Afternoon Tea, which is one of my favourite treats! However, the Pump Room far exceeded my expectations, the infusion of flavours in the savory dishes was incredible and the vegan scones were light and fluffy! I actually couldn't finish the cakes, but they were mouth watering. My compliments to the Chef; I will definitely be returning : The musicians were very talented and they completed the entire experience, especially when they played Happy Birthday, and I don't usually like the limelight, but they were incredible. I would highly recommend for a special occasion or even to treat yourself. It was definitely the highlight of my trip. Finally, I would like to say a huge thank you to James and Liberty for your exemplary service! Thank you so much for making sure my special day was perfect!
Afternoon tea at the Pump Room in Bath. Avoid!! Wait in a queue in a hallway all cramped up for 15/20 minutes. Takes 40 minutes to get served anything. Get served non vegetarian food to a vegetarian. Get served stale sandwiches. And to boot ask for another £25 tip at the end. £50 a head what a rip off. Underwhelming and truly disappointing. Only thing that can be said is that they must have made a lot of profit Merry Christmas to the Pump Room. Catering is from outside as well which could be why it’s all stale. Thankfully as a family we were able to laugh at the awfulness of the experience. Humour got us through it spend your hard earned cash elsewhere,
We went for a traditional afternoon tea. It's very easy to find the restaurant is located right in the heart of Bath. We were booked for 12 pm, their first slot of a day, however, we had to queue to enter both pre booked and walk in come at the same time and share the same queue. The environment is peaceful, there is a reasonable distance between tables and you feel quite private. Their pianist was fantastic, he played well known pieces of music with his own improvisations. Slightly let down as it didn't look like everyone was served at the similar time there was a couple who were brought their tea first and the food after, while we were waiting for someone to approach us, and once we were brought ours, there were other visitors still waiting at empty tables. We also didn't expect one of our teas to be brewed of a teabag with the others being loose teas of a high quality, not quite fair. The food was good and it was a very generous amount. 4 plates in total (sandwiches, savoury snacks, scones and cakes). We were very full and took some cakes away. To sum up I recommend this place for an afternoon tea although, there are some points to work on, there are great positive sides to outweigh.
Visiting Bath for the Christmas market and managed to get a table ad hoc. Loved the afternoon tea and the service and attention from the staff was excellent, yes it’s is expensive but worth it. The food was all delicious.
