The Pump Room in Bath offers a mix of experiences that have left customers with varied opinions. What User dislikes about The Pump Room:
The elegant and luxurious Pump Room is possibly the best and most well-known restaurant in Bath. The spacious dining room with elegant glass chandeliers and live music, including a piano, will enchant you if your budget allows. Unfortunately, that was not the case for me this time, but I still enjoyed admiring the interior and taking photos. The restaurant is located within the historic thermal baths, facing the main... We went for a traditional afternoon tea. It's very easy to find the restaurant is located right in the heart of Bath. We were booked for 12 pm, their first slot of a day, however, we had to queue to enter both pre booked and walk in come at the same time and share the same queue. The environment is peaceful, there is a reasonable distance between tables and you feel quite private. Their pianist was fantastic, he played well known pieces of music with his own improvisations. Slightly let down as it didn't look like everyone was served at the similar time there was a couple who were brought their tea first and the food after, while we were waiting for someone to approach us, and once we were brought ours, there were other visitors still waiting at empty tables. We also didn't expect one of our teas to be brewed of a teabag with the others being loose teas of a high quality, not quite fair. The food was good and it was a very generous amount. 4 plates in total (sandwiches, savoury snacks, scones and cakes). We were very full and took some cakes away. To sum up I recommend this place for an afternoon tea although, there are some points to work on, there are great positive sides to outweigh.

Visiting Bath for the Christmas market and managed to get a table ad hoc. Loved the afternoon tea and the service and attention from the staff was excellent, yes it’s is expensive but worth it. The food was all delicious.

I took three friends to the Bath Pump Room restaurant for some expensive cocktails and even more expensive high teas. Cocktails and Food were quite nice but we were served by an incredibly rude blond east European girl. She started by telling us that it was impossible to split the bill for the cocktails and high tea as that was how she did it and there was no other option even if we placed 2 separate orders. Then soon after we received our cocktails the high teas arrived which we sent back as we didn’t want the teas to get cold. She then came to our table to berate us for this. She seemed to think we had to be finished in 90 minutes and we had to have everything at the same time. When we objected we were told that we were being very awkward customers as we should have known this was the case. Apparently in 16 years she had worked there everybody “knew” that a sitting was limited to 90 minutes (no matter how much you were spending). If it hadn’t been something of a special occasion and I was so embarrassed for taking my friends there to receive this treatment we would have left. Will not be going there any time soon to be spoken to like this again.

Went as a birthday treat and offered a true traditional British experience … great location and the selection of savouries, sandwiches, scones and cakes was amazing! We pre ordered the smoked salmon starter as we thought we’d be getting very little but that was a mistake! There was more than enough having said that, the salmon was beautiful! Only two criticisms was that the trio playing seemed to spend more time talking amongst themselves than actually playing! (But when they did, they were so talented) and that at the end the waitress, who had been really attentive throughout, arrived at the table with a bill (we had prepaid) and a credit card machine for a tip! £14. We would of course have left her a tip but this expectation seemed to bring the whole experience into the modern world! No more Austin and Dickens! Would be interested to know if this service charge goes directly to the staff as a bonus in top of their wages or is sucked into the management account and used as an additional income source! Either way, was a great afternoon, worth every penny and a great experience….

Extremely disappointing! Been to Bath in the past but this time able to go for afternoon tea to this place. At over £40.00 for one afternoon tea is not only very expensive for a meagre portion but then to add on a discretionary service charge when the service is less than satisfactory is well………… Given luke warm tea for afternoon tea in less than satisfactory would you not say? Then when asked for hot water to top up tea with hot water waitress brings out ice water!!!! Return? Probably not! What a shame!!!
