we rate this as the best in Batemans Bay Area, we had 4 days there and tried several fish, calamari and chips at a coupe of other rated locations. they were great but Bernys was amazing, we arrived shortly before closing which is 7pm on Monday nights, which caught us on the hop, any way we had flat head fillets ($5ea) a good size and calamari (largest and thickest only $1.10 ea) the batter was brilliant and cooked to... What User doesn't like about Berny's at Batehaven:
Best fish and chips, probably, but that's because Batemans Bay is about 5 square kilometres where the standard is not high. The fish was good. Nice light batter freshly cooked. Kind of what you expect from any fish and chip shop. The "home made" chips deep fried, burnt and horrible. Totally out of their home made sauces. (Make some more!!) and to boot a 45 minutes wait. THE best fish and chips in the region . Fresh fish, great chips, great batter, beautifully cooked and friendly service . Don’t waste your money elsewhere !!
The best fish and chips I’ve had… probably ever. A traditional setup, using fresh produce, made to order (not frozen). It was our first visit, and the food was just amazing. Service was quick, even for a Saturday. As a family we probably tried most of the menu it was all delicious. Calamari was the standout. I should have paid more. There’s not many places like this still operating, certainly not producing such quality food
I went to Bernys last night and couldn’t be happier. It was probably the best fish and chips I have had for a long time. It wasn’t greasy, it was tasty and the calamari was great. I would happily recommend, and will be going again before we head home next week.
Really great food and service. Good fish and trips are hard to come by nowdays but this place is really worth a visit. I travel the coast regularly this is a gem.
The food at this restaurant is delicious and the service is fast and friendly. However, there is way too much salt in the dishes. I had to remove the batter from the seafood in order to reduce the saltiness.
