Really pleasant pub,the lady owner most welcoming, We always pick free houses as we find the chains, and brewery owned places less than rewarding. Anyway, pretty garden and fun to watch the busy sky ,a glider school nearby. Excellent fish and chips, and a memorable cheese soufflé,wish we...
Had a lovely meal on Wednesday evening, we sat out in the garden which is nicely kept and great on a sunny day. Everyone I was with chose the fish and chips which was fresh battered haddock, chunky chips and a great homemade tartare sauce. I had the duck, which I can't recommend enough, the skin was crispy with a good level of doneness (could be more under but I'm not sure that'd appeal to the masses, it certainly wasn't over done though), the dauphinoise were wonderfully creamy and garlicky and just the right amount on the plate. The real star of the show however was the sauce, a fantastic balance between the meaty umami of a homemade thickened brown stock and the fruity, tangy slight sweetness of the red currants and orange. The sauce perfectly complimented the duck, veg and potato without distracting from them but can equally hold it's own as an element on the plate. If you like camembert then the baked Tunworth to start is a real treat. The local beers and ciders are good too. A gem of a place! TL;DR order the duck
I had the pesto garlic linguine with chicken wrapped in crispy bacon delicate flavours and moist chicken superb. My husband had veal: equally tasty. The setting sun shines across the fields into the garden very atmospheric. All local produce. Highly recommended
A proper independent Free House country pub. A great menu with plenty of tempting starters, mains and deserts. Would highly recommend the baked cheese as a starter, the duck as a main and, if you have room, the churos as a dessert. There are plenty...
