Mariners - Basingstoke and Deane
Mariners
Description
Mariners Fish and Chips has garnered a range of opinions from patrons. While some diners rave about the crispy, light chips and perfectly cooked fish, others express disappointment with greasy, soggy offerings and inconsistent quality. Complaints about service and the use of frozen ingredients highlight a potential decline in standards during busy periods. However, the clean environment, friendly staff, and large portions continue to attract loyal customers who appreciate a hearty meal. Despite the mixed reviews, Mariners remains a popular choice for fish and chip enthusiasts, with some visitors eager to give it another shot.

The fries were oily, and the cheese and onion slice was overcooked. Our visits to this restaurant have been hit or miss, with disappointments outweighing the positives. We won't be returning to this chip shop.
I have visited this restaurant four times and each time I have gotten food poisoning. I always order the fish and chips, and I never have any problems when I eat them from other places. It seems like there is an issue with the food here specifically. I would not recommend this restaurant.
I usually go to my local fish and chip shop in Whitchurch, but decided to give Overton's a try. I was surprised to see the lady preparing my cod and chips - the piece of fish was more like a large cod bite with a strange branch off the side. I waited for my order and was disappointed with what I received. When I got home, I realized that the tiny piece of fish was indeed mine, and at £6.35, it felt like a rip off compared to my usual spot. The staff seemed disorganized and were arguing about their employer. I don't plan on returning anytime soon, and will stick to my favorite chippy in Whitchurch just 3 miles away.
Popped in for a quick meal. Food was lovely and fresh. Didn't need to order a large chips as small was plenty for me a 8yr
