Café Kranich is situated in one Basel 's least known but most beautiful parks, huge and with countless ancient trees. The area is actually part of the hospital facility (UPK), but is open to visitors, and so is the coffee shop. If you step in the coffee shop in the afternoon, you are usually greeted by the tempting smell of a warm cake fresh from the oven that you 'll find rather hard to resist. The café also serves wonderfully fresh salads with homemade dressing and there is a homemade meal on the menu every day. And my personal favourite they sell THE ultimate Mohrenkopf in Switzerland from a local manufacturer called Richterich very thin biscuit with dark chocolate coating and filled with the most delicious fluffy egg white foam you can imagine. To die for. Food is ordered at the counter, so prices are quite moderate. The staff is very friendly and incredibly patient they are well trained to be kind to all sorts of customers in that location. The place is open during the day, usually from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Awesome vegetarian lunch if you pre-order but otherwise you can find great paninis, soups, sandwiches or refreshing beverages here. Definitely recommend!
