Was Alain Bernard at Chez Buck a mag?
We turned up on spec at this delightful typically French restaurant and they made us feel welcome. We sat out side under limited cover, the setting, like most of Barfleur was quaint ant very aspheric . We placed the order, and was not disappointed with the food. A very enjoyable time waiter was very good, be mindful of the weather if sitting outside as it did try and rain, which resulted in us all having to shuffle a... View all feedback.

What Louis Tessier dislikes about Chez Buck:
No welcome when I arrived I had to call the waitress after 10 successive passages in front of us without even a hello we were about to leave but we were hungry. Once at the table, one of the waitresses only grumbles and swears between the room and the outdoor kitchen, she grumbles throughout the service, the little news she did what she could. The food isn't bad though, but we'll never set foot there again. View all feedback.

After a very disappointing meal on the port in Cherbourg we approached the restaurants in Barfleur with caution, aware that this is a touristy area and this restaurant is in a prime harbourside spot. Need not have worried. Service was super friendly - arrived late on a Saturday lunch and although all tables were full they gave us a spot in the back to look at the menu then moved us to a better table when it became free. Good choice on the menu - lots of galettes (savoury pancakes) for the kids, meat/fish and moules. Menu had English subtitles which kids liked and meant I didn't have to translate! All food was excellent - moules Normandes (with cream) really delicious after bad experience in cherbourg and frites nice and hot and crisp. Kids lived their galettes and husband enjoyed his cider cooked ham. Selection of carte d'or icecreams or sweet crepes for pud. Nice clean loo too - with that most desirable quality in France - a loo seat! Definitely one to come back to.

We visited on a rainy summers Saturday evening- we reserved in advance which was good as otherwise we might not have got a table as it was busy. We had one fixed price menu, which centred on a lovely classic galette, and some a la carte galettes and crepes, and a very tender flame grilled steak frites. All were lovely, and the crepe with strawberries and raspberries was buried in sweet whipped cream. Good service, lovely food, cosy restaurant, what's not to like? Would thoroughly recommend.

Be sure to have the sublime St. Vaast oysters. The crepes are nice. Lovely waitress. Friendly locals. Fun.
