Would you pay $75 for a 8 mile round trip? Not just any trip, but on the largest accumulation of ice south of the Arctic Circle. We were traveling with
I visited this restaurant with my sister and found the service to be below par. The employees did not communicate effectively with us or with each other.
This restaurant is the better option of the two available at the Columbia Icefields Discovery Center, with linen tablecloths for dinner. As guests of the hotel, it was the perfect place to dine once the day tourists had left. Despite being somewhat busy and a small reservation mix-up, once we were seated by the window overlooking the Athabasca Glacier with a cocktail in hand, any stress from our reservation issue was forgotten. The menu offers a range of international dishes, from steaks to local game specialties, pasta, burgers, and even a touch of Chinese cuisine. During our dinner, the three of us tried the Bison Burger, Fettuccine Alfredo with Shrimp, and the Chef's Special Fried Rice, which was recommended by our waiter. The cocktails were well-made, and there was a great selection of top-shelf liquors for the Scotch drinker in our group. The food was served hot and with a lot of care by the dining room host, who was aware of our reservation problem. Every bite was absolutely delicious! If possible, skip the cafeteria nearby and dine here. You won't regret it! The restaurant is open for table service from 8-10am and 6-9pm, 7 days a week from May to October, and they may also offer a lunch buffet.
