What a hidden gem! I'm so surprised that this place is never crowded! It's bring your own bottle, but the food is outstanding—I could easily spend hours here. The service could use some improvement, but as long as you’re not in a rush, it’s definitely worth it. View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Mare Nostrum:
NOISIEST restaurant I have EVER tried to enjoy with friends. Food over priced and portions teeny. A $24 mezze platter was barely enough for one person. Each item was about tablespoon and very lackluster. Not much to recommend. View all feedback.
The mezzes are awesome octopus is fabulous, fava bean cake was new to me and refreshing on a hot summer day. It's Turkish but I felt like I was back in Athens or Mykonos fantastic, authentic! Best eggplant I've ever had (roast w sundried tomatoes). Grilled fish (dorade i think) was awesome just as good as Black Olive or Ouzo Bay.
Fabulous meal from start to finish!!! Shared tapas and roasted Bronzino was like velvet.
This a BYOB restaurant. A package store is about one block away. Mare Nostrum is located in gentrified Fells Point. The ambiance is average, somewhat noisy. The clientele were mostly millenials The overall food theme is Turkish with some greek additions. My companion and I ordered stuffed calamari as starter. Four whole body calamari stuffed with red and yellow peppers, very gently fried without breading or other coating. Original and outstanding and recommended. Also had the greek salad (typical, large and good). Companion had whole bronzini, fried crispy. Impressive presentation and very well prepared. Also ordered Kofte which are spicy lamb meatballs. You get eight well endowed meatballs. No dessert ordered. Service provided by Ana, a young Brazilian woman, was attentive and excellent. Value is excellent (total bill for two with 20% tip was about $118, good value we thought). We recommend this restaurant for a private riposte and the excellent dishes.

Amazing food, vey authentic. Things seem a bit overpriced though. The mixed grill is $40 for probably only enough meat for one hungry person or two samplers. The lack of alcohol, wine, and beer is a MAJOR limitation.
