Go Sun Chinese - Ballymena

Typically, the Go Sun is our go-to Chinese restaurant in Ballymena. We have never had a bad meal there. However, last night, after a trip to the cinema, we decided to just get a small takeaway for myself. I ordered cream of chicken soup and a small sliced chicken with fried rice and curry sauce. Unfortunately, when I got home, I found the dishes to be terrible. The cream of chicken soup, which is usually delicious, tasted like it was made with vinegar and I could only manage to take two bites (the second was just to confirm my initial impression). The chicken in the other dish was decent, but the fried rice was bland and clumpy. I will give the Go Sun another chance to see if it was just a one-time mistake, but if the quality does not improve, I will not be returning.

I have always enjoyed the delicious and well-priced food at this restaurant! I recently ordered a takeout of Crispy Duck Chicken Chow Mein and it was all very tasty. Just be aware that the prices may have increased since the menu photos were taken in 2024. However, I still found them to be reasonable.

I went to the restaurant with a friend and we both had chicken curry, chips, and water. My friend also had fried rice along with water. We also had prawn crackers, although I personally did not enjoy them, my friend did. The meal was delicious and the staff were very helpful. The portion sizes were generous and I will definitely be returning as I really enjoyed the experience. I cannot comment on the price as my friend insisted on paying for the meal, but he did not complain so it must not have been too expensive. Overall, it was worth it.

Staff need a bit of training in hospitality as they looked totally miserable and felt like anything I asked was a bother for them. Only thing to be said is the manager is polite and well mannered but the waiting staff let him down. Food was set down on the table without as much as a word and no one came to check if everything was ok with the meal. Rice came out cold on the plate but decided wasn’t worth the bother asking the staff over again!! Do better seriously.

We visited on two different Saturday nights first visit was not booked it was earlier on a Saturday night maybe around 5. We got a table no problem and service and food was great. Second visit was for 10 of us and was booked, maybe because it was a bit later but restaurant was extremely busy and service unfortunately slow, very slow. Food was good great choice on menu just don’t go when your very hungry you might be waiting a while on your food but apart from that really good!
