Reviews - Java Detour Inc
Reviews summary
Tucked off Highway 99 in Bakersfield, this tiny drive‑thru kiosk is a favorite pit stop for travelers and locals craving inventive, affordable drinks—from Reese’s‑like peanut butter mochas to seasonal frappes and customizable Red Bull blends. Staff are generally friendly and generous with samples, and turnovers can be quick. Drawbacks include inconsistent service, occasional watered‑down or incorrect orders, limited access for large vehicles and no indoor or outdoor seating. Still, for a flavorful grab‑and‑go detour, it’s worth the stop.

This coffee shop has a convenient drive-thru located right off Highway 99 in Bakersfield. We always make it a point to stop here whenever we're passing through. The drinks are great, the prices are reasonable, and the service is pretty fast. The Peanut Butter and Chocolate blended Mocha tastes just like a Reese's peanut butter cup! View all feedback.
What mo j dislikes about Java Detour Inc:
I used to feel sorry for this place because they are mostly empty in the a.m., while Starbucks across the street and Dutch Bros is packed; but they have earned the lull. They have no sense of urgency in the morning; they don't care how long you have to wait and never have both windows open. This café only has a drive-thru option, with no indoor ordering or outdoor seating available. It's a small coffee kiosk located on a corner, and I found it difficult to access when I had a larger van, but now that I drive a sedan, it's much easier. They've rolled out their fall flavors, so I tried a maple latte with almond milk and a blended caramel apple frappe, which tasted just like green apples drizzled in caramel. They offer food as well, and while their menu seems health-focused, I'd recommend avoiding this drive-thru if you're in a rush. If you have a larger vehicle, I suggest parking next door and walking over—it's definitely worth it. They also offer packaged juice shots, as seen in the photos I included. Additionally, they have a blended Red Bull drink that you can customize with flavors if you're looking for a boost.
I absolutely love Java Detour! My boyfriend and I travel all the way from Delano just to stop here. The staff is consistently friendly, and my boyfriend, who drives for DoorDash, always mentions how they generously give him samples and new drinks to try. We really enjoy it here!
I have lived in Bakersfield for many years. I work downtown and drive on California Ave a least a couple times a week. I would always pass by Java Detour, yet I would never stop. And boy do I regret it! I 've been missing out on this gem for years. I have finally been enough times to confidently say, this is my go-to for a pick-me-up! This tiny drive-thru coffee shop is so awesome! The staff is always so nice. They always greet me with a smile and ask how my day is going. One thing I’ve learned is, always listen the their recommendations! If I didn’t do so, I would have never found my new favorite drinks. They have a 'Butterfinger Frappe ' ' that is so good! it 's literally like taking a sip of frozen blended candy deliciousness. I also love the caramel apple frappe but I 'm not sure if that one is a seasonal drink or not? And don 't get me started on the RedBull drinks! I don 't even like RedBull from the can lol, but there 's something about these that is unlike anything I 've ever tasted. It 's like a slushie with a kick of energy. I haven 't tried any of their food items besides their banana muffins. I 'll be honest they 're not the best I 've ever had but still good to have with a warm cup of coffee. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who lives in bakersfield, or even if you’re passing through! It’s worth the “Detour”. They’re conveniently located right off the freeway which is a plus. You won’t be disappointed!

I really enjoyed this place at first, but recently they’ve hired new staff, and over the last couple of weeks, my coffee orders have been messed up. Today, my coffee was especially watered down, which was very disappointing. I think I’ll give Caffeine Supreme a try instead.
The restaurant says it's "open," but I've noticed that no one is ever there. Honestly, it's a bit frustrating. My heart has been let down so many times that I don't know what to trust anymore.

Wife and I travel down south and to Vegas quite often and we always make sure to make a pit stop here along the way. Drinks are always amazing! Definitely recommend checking out.
