Café Des Artistes - Baie-Saint-Paul

We were starving and couldn't wait for restaurants to open for dinner. The place was recommended in a couple of travel web sites, so I had high expectations, but I thought the food was just average. Sitting at the terrace after an active day of sightseeing and driving was lovely though. I didn't have any slow service issues as noted in other reviews

We visited the Cafe Des Artistes on a Tuesday evening. We waited 45 minutes for one glass of wine to arrive and a second glass for my dinner companion took almost an hour to arrive. After waiting just shy of two hours for our meal to arrive, we left the restaurant hungry and totally dissatisfied. Many tables that were seated after us ate their entire meal and left before any food arrived at our table. The service was pathetic. The waiters were useless. The management was non-existent. We are accustomed to dining in a wide variety of restaurants in many different cities, and we would never recommend this restaurant, nor would we return under any circumstances. Shame on you, Cafe des Artistes! You do not deserve to be in business. .

Nice restaurant in a beautiful town. Very good French and québécois cooking. The porch dining area was a bit too crowded,

Sign on the door says wait in the street to be called. Very few customers inside and ignored by the staff for over 15 minutes. This was some very stupid business practise resulting in us going to a competitor. We spent over CA$250. If you can afford to take that hit then carry on employing intransigent staff. If not get your act together.

Great service. Very decent menu with an impressive basic wine list. Food was very good we both had the spicy fettuccine bolognese and cleaned the plate. This is a decent restaurant and I believe its current rating is under valued. Recommend you give it a try.
