I was pleasantly surprised by the delicious food at Yar Pyi! I arrived hungry and thirsty, and left with a satisfied stomach. I highly recommend trying their banana pancakes, assorted fruit salads, and mango juice. They were all delicious and refreshing!
Initially, I was hesitant to dine at this restaurant as it seemed like a replica of the Moon restaurant located across the street. However, I decided to give it a chance and was pleasantly surprised. The vegetable spring rolls were delicious, and although we had ordered banana spring rolls and the waitress got the order wrong, she compensated by giving us three extra bananas. The fried potatoes (which were essentially french fries) were a bit oily but tasty. I appreciated that the restaurant is family-owned and the owners were very friendly and attentive to their customers.
I agree with others who have mentioned the lackluster attitude and at times indifferent approach to customers. While the food was decent, it didn't quite match up to some other restaurants we've tried in Myanmar (such as both Moon restaurants and Marie Min in Mandalay). However, the fact that it offers vegan or vegetarian options is a plus. The portions were satisfactory. The avocado and poppadoms with lime were tasty, but the aubergine curry was not as good as Marie Min's. Despite wanting to support the restaurant as the underdog, our initial experience with the staff showing disapproval of us parking on the Moon side of the track was off-putting. It's great that the restaurant offers vegan and vegetarian options, but they should be more welcoming to customers and not display disapproval towards those who choose other dining options. Unfortunately, this strange approach may be costing them business as we were deterred from returning. In hindsight, we should have mentioned this, as more vegan and vegetarian choices are always appreciated.
I see it s been 3 years since the last review. I went there in June 2016 and I can tell you this place is absolutely yummy. The owners are so sweet and welcoming, yes they don 't speak as good English as in the other Moon restaurant but I can tell you that this one is better. Especially we use to go there for breakfast because it s the only one open after sunrise and we could see the monks around 7am passing by. Highly recommended :
The food was average and expensive for what you got (the tomato and peanut curry was particularly dissapointing) but the worst thing is that the owners sit and moan openly and loudly about the Moon Restaurant opposite moaning about how busy they are just because they're in the Lonely Planet yet they have blatantly stolen the Moon's concept and entire menu!
