Although listed as a hotel, the restaurant is open to all. Very friendly service, good atmosphere. The menu is extensive but hard to view until you arrive since the samples provided online are just snippets. It is in four languages, including English and has a lot of allergy information. The cuisine is typical for the Dolomites (Ladina), kind of a cross between German and Italian. I had a delicious goulash soup followed by rye-bread dumplings with Speck (German ham) on a bed of lightly cooked shredded cabbage. The Tiramisu to follow was excellent. My wife's vegetable soup, followed by goulash with polenta and Panna Cotta was also excellent. The service was very attentive.
What a gem of a place! The Ustaria Posta was recommended to us by the chalet staff as a good local place to eat on their night off, and the eight of us who ate there can all endorse this. Excellent, knowledgable staff, generous portions of well-prepared food, and a good selection of local wines. For anybody with food allergens the menu is comprehensively marked with what dishes to avoid. Well wined and dined ... and at 60 Euros per couple we reckoned this was very good value.
We were guests on two occasions at this charming hotel, so breakfast and dinner were included as part of our tour package. Breakfast was always a huge, varied spread of cereals, fruits, yogurts, pastries, cold cuts, cheeses, high quality teas, juices, etc. Dinner for us was included each evening, and the 3-course meals consisted of large portions. The salad buffet was filling on its own; but then they’d serve a Primi of soup or generous pile of pasta, followed by a Secondi of meat slabs with potatoes and root vegetables, and finished with a generous Dolci such as ice cream. Wine was always available. Hubs and I would usually be full after the Primi. Everything was hearty, fresh, and full of REAL flavor unlike the U.S.’s conventionally grown and raised produce and meats. Staff did their utmost to keep us happy and well-fed. They did their jobs with pride and if there's one aspect I miss about Alta Badia (besides the food), it's the people at Ustaria Posta.
