We had a lovely valentines meal in beautiful surroundings, the food was very well presented and well cooked , the portions were very generous too. Added bonus was the singer Sarah Louise who made the evening extra special. View all feedback.
What Sherpa58308050922 doesn't like about Bull:
This pub is a perfect example of faded splendour. Magnificent building. Food absolutely ghastly, reheated Brake Bros or equivalent. The 'kitchen ' must consist solely of fridge freezers and microwaves. Place was full, so others must like it. View all feedback.
Lovely surroundings but have always found the restaurant to be hit or miss and sadly today was a bit of a miss. Chicken burger that was absolutely cremated to seconds from dust and no promised onion rings on the plate, Gammon that had quite a bit of gristle on it (good for the doggy bag though!! But the rest of the meals were fine. For a Thursday lunchtime it was steadily busy but service was very slow though we wernt in a hurry so it wasn't too bad but 2 of our party went for the hot drink and small dessert option and the dessert arrived 20 mins after they had finished their hot drinks... Staff as always courteous and friendly.

What a lovely hotel and restaurant best for miles, so why oh why shut the restaurant on St Valentines and heard us all into a pokey bar?? I booked to have a lovely lunch with my wife in the nicest restaurant around, on entering we were told restaurant shut, ON ST VALENTINES DAY!!!! the bar was packed, had the atmosphere of a farm bar, whoever decided to close the restaurant on st Valentines day is in my opinion working in the wound job. So, what did we do, I walked over to where we checked in and check in and told them to cancel our booking. I'm not celebrating with my wife St Valentines day in something little better that a works canteen. Ps it said nothing about the restaurant being shut and if it had we would have gone elsewhere
Great spot for lunch, popped in Bank Holiday. Extensive menu, had the Fish Gougons, very tasty. Good value for money very pleasant service
My wife and I dined at the hotel for dinner tonight. We are locals and have eaten here before. The food was good and we both enjoyed it, which is why we are giving it 3 stars. However, there were some issues that prevented us from giving a higher rating. Three issues stood out to us during our visit. Firstly, despite it being a cold winter evening, the outside door of the hotel was left wide open, as was the inside door into the bar/restaurant. This made the room very cold when we sat down at our table. Despite my attempt to close the door, I was told it had to remain open for guests coming in and out. After enduring 10 more minutes of discomfort, I finally convinced a staff member to close the door. Secondly, we were confused by the hotel's policy on service. There were three staff members behind the bar, yet we were told we had to order our food at the bar instead of receiving table service. This made us feel unwelcome and was quite inconvenient. Lastly, when we went to pay at the bar (as there was no table service for the bill), we were simply told the price we had to pay. Something felt off, and after requesting a bill, we discovered an extra £5.60 for a pint had been added without our knowledge. Interestingly, it was the same server who had been reluctant to close the door earlier. We urge you, dear reader, to form your own opinion on our experience.
