We had a wonderful Saturday lunch with our daughter. The pub has a charming atmosphere, and the staff were very friendly. The food was delicious, and we can't wait to come back again soon. Just a heads up, it does get busy! View all feedback.

What Paul M dislikes about The Pointer, Brill:
Okay 3 stars is kind of a relative score. I had expectations of the Pointer because it has (had) a great reputation. But we had a very run of the mill experience there. The place was chilly and the staff kept leaving the door open... Food was pretty standard, menu choice had nothing exciting to offer. Couldn't really fault it, but it wasn't anything special. Heavenly dinner at a cold, rainy day. loved the bark dripping butter, the homemade baba ganoush, the torbay sole. bliss. beautiful staff, happy room, waiter with a feeling of humor. read the review of 14 jan with desmay. our experience could not have been different. the personal was warm, funny, welcoming. the 40-minute drive worth. many thanks.

Finally, it has made recommendations to the pointer. friendly, stylish and round tasty look. modern furnished classic furniture and a beautiful layout. I ate in the bar and got a tailored vegan menu a wonderful starter farm fresh from the pointer smallholding with tasty sweet and salads including carved radishes and a pea pea. next baked squash with a damp, hearty bulgarene and walnut center and perfectly steamed seasonal greens. pud a poached pear with a light as it brnensorbet and nut sugar cracks. this feels like a fun pub with good administration, a friendly open kitchen that started for a chat before the service about my selection of food. will like to return soon and for now I thank them for taking me, creating and expressing my own vegan menu and for the warm welcome extended to me and my dog, who was welcome in the bar es tab. there is also a great looking dining room and gartenhof so a good place for social dining, groups and events. thank you

As a country girl in the heart my ideal Sunday is the mooching around the landscape spent in wellies, dog(s) in tow, an appetit for a hearty Sunday roast in a beautiful village pub. and that's exactly what I spent on Sunday after coming back from japan (blog posts on japan coming next week btw). I was greeting the presse release for a pub called the pointer, in brill near oxford, from a pr that I work, accompanied by her “favourite pig picture ever” and a invite to spend the morning on the farm, which produces most of the obst, vegetables and meats that were used in the pointer where I would then have been operating. she has whispered us directly to her farm (which they have grown from what is essentially an extended five hektar garden when they bought it, to 150 hektar) where we have some fountains for our guided tour through the land and the animals donated. I am a massive believer in the nutrition of good quality meat (and veg) and it was so refreshing to see how well respected all their animals were. fiona and david are committed to bringing chemically free foods and animals to the highest welfare standards. they grow kitty, sheep, chicken and pigs on the farm, which are raised on natural food and live fuller, happier, freer living. some of the animals are bred as watched and have won many prizes, and others are bred for meat. we saw their highland cows, longhorns, tamworth kune kune crucible 10 days old ferkels, Indian runners escape, middle white pigs, hampshire down sheep and smiling, a few horses and their biennial hives!

There are some places that only have this star quality and there are others who unfortunately think they have. sad it is the simple truth and with so many restaurants at the moment the market is with fine food – or at least food that sees and thinks that it is good – but not taste. the style about the substance experience has happened to me so very recently and finding a meal in Britain within about an hour of london has been foolishly difficult this year – until now that is.

Oh my goodness, there are no words to describe how amazing this place was. Found it last minute on a little trip and it’s an absolute hidden gem! The food was so fresh and tasted amazing, the staff incredibly attentive and kind. I cannot recommend this place enough! My partner had the burger and I had the duck wrap and both were utterly incredible, if you’re anywhere near you should definitely take the time to visit!

The Pointer is a restaurant that has received mixed reviews from customers. While some enjoyed their meals and the warm atmosphere, others found the food to be bland and overpriced. The service was a highlight for many, with staff members going above and beyond to ensure a pleasant dining experience. The restaurant also offers accommodation and has a working farm that provides fresh ingredients for the menu. Despite some shortcomings, many guests look forward to returning to The Pointer for another meal.

Poor service at bar. Staff too busy with drinkers to direct customers to restaurant. Festive menu not available in restaurant despite being advertised on website. Later on Festive menu given to other guests after we had ordered. Meal very good although main course potions were small and sharing platter was not sufficient for two as stated. Staff polite and friendly but slow and hesitant possibly due to issue with Festive menu. Service and ambience has declined since last visit

There are problems with the layout, of course; the two rooms are far apart and all the life is at the front (where we were not offered a table . But even at the back things could be improved by curtains on the windows and rugs on the floor, which would certainly make the room warmer in feeling. The young woman who was serving was willing, but seemed to have had little or no training, and was not a natural animator. The kitchen is very noisy the bel should be unnecessary. It was unpleasant for our companions to see the chef reproving the young server in the dining room itself. The chef seems to me a problem: starters have been improved, but the choice of main courses is very limited and dull. Prices remain high in relation to quality. I op[ted for the burger in desperation. It wasn't bad. The handcut chips weren't bad either, but they weren't remarkable either. The Pheasant offers specials along with a rather more varied and balanced basic menu (fish! . The Pointer should do the same. The wine list is still hopeless. It shouldn't be necessary to say that vintage information is basic; not to provide it for a wine which is over £50 a bottle is a sign of indifference in the highest degree. All these things could be set right without much trouble. I hope they will be, as it would be nice to have a choice of places to go to in Brill. That's why we gave the Pointer another try now the management has changed but it does need more change.

Second time at The Pointer, this time in the rear restaurant area which is a bit quieter than the pub area so more suited to a fine dining experience, although we loved the ambience of the pub but got to see the workings of the kitchen this time which was very jolly, quite the opposite of a Ramsay-run kitchen. The food was lovely, as usual, tried the lamb this time which was delicious. We had an unfortunate glass breakage which resulted in one of the meals being contaminated with glass, which was immediately replaced without us even asking. Top marks for service, food and ambience.

We had breakfast here as it was on route to Magdalen College, Oxford University where my son was starting as a fresher. The bar has been recently updated/refreshed. It was exceptionally clean, the staff were very welcoming and attentive. We could help ourselves to freshly baked pastries fresh orange juice. I ordered the full English which was memorable and my son had eggs benedict which were cooked to his liking. We were so impressed by the Pointer as well as the village of Brill the we plan to return for Sunday lunch in a few days. Dogs welcome in the bar area and the 8 bedrooms.

The pub was a delightful and inviting spot. Our visit was spontaneous, as we were unfamiliar with the area. We enjoyed a simple lunch of celery soup and sourdough bread, the combination of which was delicious. The zing of the bread complemented the soup perfectly. The Sunday roasts looked enticing, but unfortunately they were fully booked for lunch. We were thankful that they were able to accommodate us.

The food was fantastic and the menu was intriguing. The service was excellent. The restaurant is located near a windmill, making it a perfect spot for a leisurely walk. It's a lovely place to visit.

Cosy pub and friendly service. We had the prawn curry and fish chips, and both were very tasty. Decent pint of Guinness too.

We stayed at The Pointer for a wedding at Notley Abbey for 2 nights. We stayed for 1 evening meal and breakfast and both were great. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The rooms were spacious and the bathrooms fantastic with a double basin, walk in shower and free standing bath. If we're ever planning on visiting close by we'll be sure to book again.

A lovely evening with friends. Service excellent and no delay in being served. The starters were superb, chicken livers and prawns simply brilliant. Main courses of chicken and fish pie were plentiful and pipping hot, such a pleasant change . Overall could not fault the quality or service. Thank you we will be back !

Called in for the first time since COVID restrictions for a quick pint on the way to a curry in Long Crendon...beer was good, barmaid was polite...customers made for a good atmosphere the food seen looked tasty and plentiful but I can't comment on taste or quality on this visit experience. The location only loses a star because this is the second pub in Brill and as The Pheasant gets 5* in part because of its impressive location with views across the windmill including incredible sunsets it would be an injustice to give them equal billing

The Pointer is amazing! The food is delicious, the portions are generous, the service was just brilliant Miguel offered us lots of advice on the menu and also had a laugh and a joke with us which I love. My parents had just got married the evening before and stayed in one of the rooms at the Pointer (they said that was incredible too) and Miguel gave them a complimentary glass of champagne each. It was busy but that didn't impact service, it just created a lovely atmosphere. I can't wait to visit again and bring new friends and family!

The food was ok. Starter was good but the rib eye came with very watery sauce and my partner had the cauliflower, again bland food . I'd say too pricey for what you get. It's a pity. We were looking forward to trying for a long time. £92 for 2 people, I'd expect the food to be better
