Was Dani P at Seewee a mag?
We highly came highly recommended to SeeWee many locals had told us this is one of the best places we need to go to and we hadn't been yet! Family was visiting town and it coincidentally worked out that it was blue crab season! We knew they'd have some amazing choices. They were very accommodated to allow me to have a grilled blue crab as I am GF! My husband got the seafood platter! Both parents got fried blue crab!... View all feedback.
What Michelle S dislikes about Seewee:
Great value! I wanted to really love this place, but maybe we just didn't pick the right dishes. We stopped in for lunch while heading to Charleston, and it's located in a charming old house. The service was excellent, and the hush puppies were delicious. I had the oyster po' boy, which was good, but I'm not a fan of mayo and would have preferred an aioli or remoulade instead. The fried flounder sandwich was also goo... View all feedback.
The food is excellent in both quality and portion size. The decor is very authentic. Just a word of caution when exiting the parking lot—be careful!
Our favorite seafood restaurant! The portions are generous, and the atmosphere is fantastic! We’ve been visiting for a long time and have never been disappointed. Our guests always ask to go there and leave very satisfied! Make sure to visit on Sundays for their local shrimp and grits. They also have delicious homemade desserts! The ambiance is amazing! I’m already getting hungry thinking about it!
This is a fantastic little hidden gem that feels like a local favorite. The fried fish here is among the best you’ll find in the Charleston area, and when you combine that with a classic Southern menu, you've got a winning combination! The hushpuppies served with the meal were a big hit, and nearly everyone in our group of 11 enjoyed their dishes. My fried oysters were outstanding—perfectly battered, fresh, light, and just the right amount of crunch. They were my favorite protein of everything I tried at the table. The red rice was incredibly flavorful and definitely a standout. The greens were good, although I found myself wishing for a bit more crunch with the fried green tomatoes, but they were still quite tasty. The fried shrimp were also excellent. The fried flounder was perhaps the least favorite dish among our group; it was solid, but not enough to make me want to order it again. On the downside, we did wait nearly an hour for our table. When we checked in with the host, it seemed they had forgotten about our large group and considered splitting us across a few tables. However, the quality of the food, the service, and the overall atmosphere made up for it. Just be sure to keep on top of the host when you go!
The restaurant specializes in comforting country cuisine, featuring plenty of fish dishes. We were greeted with complimentary hush puppies, which were sweet, perfectly fried, and fresh—so good that I had to request a second basket. Next, I ordered the flounder platter, which can be prepared either fried or blackened. I opted for the blackened version, and while the fish was delicate and well-cooked, my only complaint was that I wished there had been more seasoning. The platter also includes three (yes, THREE!) sides. There were many tempting options, but today I chose fried green tomatoes, sweet potatoes, and butter beans. I would definitely return; this place boasts an excellent selection of Southern desserts and offers a truly nostalgic experience reminiscent of old-school restaurants in the South.
Seewee's is a quintessential spot located just north of Mount Pleasant. If you’re coming from the south, be ready for a sharp U-turn on Highway 17 to access the parking lot. Once an old roadside stand, the interior is charmingly decorated. You know you're in for a treat when you start with a basket of complimentary hush puppies served with butter. The drink options are nostalgic, featuring NeHi soda and a good selection of bottled beers. Most of the menu items are lightly fried, accompanied by a variety of classic sides such as butter beans, fried okra, coleslaw, and fried green tomatoes, to name a few. Each entrée comes with three side options. For those looking to skip the frying, there's a "seewee style" option as well. Everything is hot, fresh, and plentiful. It’s definitely worth the drive up Highway 17 for a delightful meal just a few miles north of Mount Pleasant.
