On the left, a... read more In the hills of Avio, past Mensano, up, up, up, look for Erta. Located on via Erta, down a dirt road, which ends at a small cluster of buildings. On the left, a dining room, terrace and kitchen. On the right, the family's home, with three apartments, and a swimming pool. For a dinner celebration, we began with a local ricotta with pepper jam, bread, salami and procutto. First platter an articoke sauce over broad cut pasta. Second platter a thinly sliced roast beef, with olive oil and a simple undressed salad Followed by vin santo, grappa and/or a house specialty made from the berries of juniper--very herbal but cleansing; a sweetness not unlike port. A sinlce layered cake, sliced thin with homeade apricote icing. Estate wine, numbered like a limited edition print. Varnos cooks alone, aided by a dishwasher. His english is good, but it was also fun to ask him questions in Italian. The dogs bark, but only for a minute. Ample parking, and the sunset from the terrace is the best apertife in the world. Dress warm, you are in the high hills of Tuscany; to be remembered.

Overpriced. The pics in this review must be old, the food looked nothing like it. Ordered the lamb, they weee out. Ordered the beef. It was practically raw. Asked for it to be grilled to medium, that took almost 30 mins. The 3-pasta plate is penne, risotto and Knödel. Overcooked, no flavor. I ate all my salad and that was it. The sauerkraut was over cooked and had no flavor. The bread was close to stale.

We stayed in the motorhome here in the Dolomites and decided to eat in the cafe. We expected nothing fancy…..what we got was delicious Italian home cooked food! The place was full of locals, the atmosphere loud but friendly, we loved it!
