We used to live in La Rode Basse, just up the road, 1974-1977! This resto was home from home. Jacqueline was, I believe, the boss. Me and my concubine Miranda spent happy hours in the kitchen. I believe their daughter is now in charge? The menu has not changed much, it was honest local food, great value. I hope they read this, but I may write via their website.

I arrived at Bourrel with my elderly parents after having been refused by l'Avenette Gourmande because the uppety chef there didn't want to be bothered with laying an extra table restaurant space half filled). It is a simple family run hotel-restaurant. Do not expect a proper mis-en-place: this family adheres to a culinary code of a past age, and I was happy to have been their guest. Jambon et melon, the best Civet de Porcelet ever tasted, with Pommes Dauphines in their best guise, Tiramisu as it should be messy), and all home made, and served in its most basic essential fashion.
